Powering off audiophile switch when not in use?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Should audiophile switches be powered off when the stereo is not in use? Do you keep it on all the time… or?
Thanks

Hi @andylovesaudio OK I’ll bite…what’s an ‘audiophile switch’?😳

I guess if it has a clock inside you should keep it on to ensure clock is stable?  Otherwise I’m not sure, but if it’s built with interfacing within a computer (Ethernet) network in mind wouldn’t its default operational status be 24/7 availability?

Hello. Actually it’s a switch (audiophile grade? 🤓) that’s between the router and the streamer. I’m a novice when it comes comes to streaming tidal. Whilst it did change the sound in the “right” direction 👍… I’m not too sure if similar improvements could be had in just a cable change for less money. Anyways … at least it did improve! It only has the streamer plugged in to it and does have a clock in it.
Wondering if it’s ok to leave it on all the time as I don’t wish to cut short  its lifespan prematurely.

Thanks for your help… really appreciate it.

I have an Innuos switch which also has a clock,  eg;

Using the same 3ppb 25MHz OCXO oscillator as used in the Statement, individually powered by its own linear power supply and connected directly to the network switch chip, avoiding precision losses from using external master clocks.

Is your switch going from a digital cable to an optical cable to act as isolation / noise reduction? There is another thread on here called “subjective experiences with all things Ethernet “  Here - a few ppl talking about isolation switches, cables, where to place them etc. you might pick up some ideas there as well.

Hello … thanks for the generosity with your time.
My system is as follows:

Wall > optical > modem > ethernet > router > ethernet > switch > ethernet > streamer/dac. if it doesn’t hurt (won’t shorten life) to leave the switch on …  I’m fine either way.
Thanks😊
