doogie44 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Help wanted--if this is possible. I own 2 Line Magnetic 218iA Mini amplifiers (stereo integrated). Not the bigger ones. 3W single-ended output running into Tekton Design Perfect SET 15 speakers (98dB; 8 ohms). Sounds terrific. Idle thought: can I hook these up together as monos to increase output, as an experiment? [I don't think I can. It's a very simple arrangerment at present. I attach the short Manual and a couple of pics.] Just scratching an itch. Thanks in advance Manual-LM-218IA-MINI-web.pdf
almikel Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Hi David, possibly... ....checking the Tekton Design Perfect SET 15 website: (https://tektondesign.com/product/full-range-speakers/full-towers/the-perfect-set-15/?srsltid=AfmBOop8Svi8_JOJn3UXy96l_FYw0A3e5YHC39XYqK0i_2rbAtFWxR8_#color), They have a bi-wire option, and a bi-amp option. Do your speakers have more than 1 set of input terminals? (ie tweeter and woofer terminals with jumpers/connections between?) If so, you could likely passively bi-amp, by removing the jumpers between the speaker terminals and running one amp to the tweeter terminals and the other amp to the woofer terminals. It's totally fine to use splitter cables between a pre-amp and 2 power amps to split signals (but never use splitter cables to join signals!) If your speakers only have 1 set of terminals (+ve and -ve), then you can't use both amps. Mike
almikel Posted January 2 Posted January 2 You could also just run 1 amp as left and the other as right, but assuming the power supplies of each amp are reasonably designed for 3W stereo output, I don't think you'd hear any difference. Mike
doogie44 Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 Only 1 set of speaker terminals. Yes, you're right, 3W each speaker per amp is feasible but I'm now thinking probably not worth the effort. Thanks for the input.
