Babyhunts Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Hi all, I have budgeted for the Anthem MRX SLM but I'm not sure if it is the right solution for me as there are heaps of options out there and would love to stay with anthem after having my mrx 510 just die on me (main board) I live in an apartment with a small rack setup (4U) 2 free spaces and the MRX SLM seems to tick the boxes, my speakers are two Polk RTI A7 and a Paradigm 10" Sub and the reason i think it's right for me is the power limitations on the amp so i wont ruin anybodys quality of life and peacefull living. Would love to hear other options or even reasons why i should stay away from it if any. Thanks!
Snoopy8 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 What was the normal volume setting on the MRX510? If low, then the MRX SLM 50W should be OK to drive your Polk with average 89 db sensitivity. Plus you live in an apartment and need to keep the volume down anyway. Your options are limited if "slim" is the criteria. As examples, The Marantz Cinema 70 slimline delivers 50W and Audyssey room correction is decent. The Yamaha RX AS710 has 60W power with poor YPAO room correction. ARC Genesis Is one the best. And I suspect the Yamaha sound signature is not for you and maybe the Marantz is ok? There are other slimline AVR models as well, but the MRX SLM seems to be a good fit for your requirements. p/s had the MRX 710... 2
Hi-Fi Whipped Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I think power and volume are two different things, a powerful amp can make listening at lower volumes more dynamic which would also be a win win given your concerns over volume. If you are concerned over volume a lot of avrs have a max volume limit you can set so it doesn’t get louder than you are comfortable with. what sources do you have? Because given you only have two speakers and a sub you may be better off with a 2ch amp that has a HDMI arc input from your tv for all things AV and have a better 2ch experience for music. 3

Normal Volume was -35 and would rarely get any higher as it was nice at that level. Slim wasn't the only option but the preffered as i have a partner who dislikes home theatre and doesn't have the same enjoyment as me and it's easier to get "slim" rather than hear "amps are ugly" over and over. I had a Marantz and loved it but after hearing and using an Anthem unit it doesn't give me the same enjoyment. Thank you for the input and it has helped me decide. 1 hour ago, Hi-Fi Whipped said: I think power and volume are two different things, a powerful amp can make listening at lower volumes more dynamic which would also be a win win given your concerns over volume. Tv is the only thing plugged in as i run any consoles in my office and same goes for music in the office, did consider getting a 2.1 but fitting this is my small rack or slapped on the wall behind the Tv is insanely appealing due to wifes dislike for amplifiers and speakers. Thanks for your advice! Purchased the MRX SLM Today at a discount. 2

Dont think you can go wrong with that choice all things considered, I also like the seamless look of not being able to see the components I’m using now. enjoy 1

I also prefer Anthem over Marantz. However, I have now moved up market (yes, more $$$$) and prefer Arcam and its Class G amps. 3 hours ago, Babyhunts said: Purchased the MRX SLM Today at a discount.
