MixedBag Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Hi all, Im looking for recommendations for a service specialist, for my Luxman amp, preferably located on the Peninsula. Much appreciated.
MixedBag Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 Mornington Peninsula. Thanks for that
mbz Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Symptoms? What's it(not) doing? Repair or refurb?
MixedBag Posted December 3, 2024 Author Posted December 3, 2024 I believe it’s the right channel to the speakers (both the main and remote sets). I’ve swapped speakers over to check it’s not a speaker issue and the same problem (cracking/feedback) is present when playing through different input (phono, aux1 or aux 2). So repair I think your thoughts? 1
mbz Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Probably dying preamp transistor Q104 2SC1345, they have a history of going noisy, but certainly it should be done by the numbers using an oscilloscope to locate the faulty component, the amp is reasonably easy to work on so not a difficult or expensive job assuming the fault occurs reasonably frequently or can be reproduced...
MixedBag Posted December 3, 2024 Author Posted December 3, 2024 Thanks for that insight. Do you have a recommendation for service-person?

Kaynin Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Sorry I can’t recommend anyone on the MP, but if you get stuck I have used JLS Electronics (was in Doncaster but now Vermont, so closer!) and also Jim at Filatronics (who is an authorised warranty repairer for Luxman, but further out). No issues with either repairer, I trust my gear with both of them. https://jls.net.au/ https://www.filatronicsavservice.com/brands-we-service Class A Audio sell Luxman and are in Notting Hill. They may have a local repairer that they use. 1
MixedBag Posted December 6, 2024 Author Posted December 6, 2024 Really appreciate the time you have spent providing these suggestions. All the best!
warek Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Sent you a pm with a repair person recommendation
warek Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Hi Sorry, I sent it to wrong person My son is Electronics Engineer and also designs and builds Amplifiers. In addition to his day job he has a small business from home repairing expensive amplifiers that other people have failed to repair . In one case he was asked to completely redesign new boards to fit an existing Accuphase amplifier where parts were not available. He is in Rowville, if you are interested message me your phone number and I will pass it on and he will call you to discuss. Cheers Kevin
