I know there's a lot of discussion on this on the web, but I thought I'd raise it here, just in case anyone can advance a compelling opinion one way or another.

If someone could explain why it would be better I’d be interested.

I understand other than just the mechanical connection would be more secure but I couldn’t see any reason it would sound better?

Happy to be informed 😊

That is because you are a learned man.

Indeed, how a connector could "sound".

I do not know the specifications, but it is a professional connector designed to accept both 50Ω and 75Ω cables (different versions) and have seen BNCs used in radio UHF gear (500MHz).

And as @joz says, it is secure so it will not get undone when shifting plugged in gear.

So it is superior in design and construction but there should be no audible difference between the it and RCA.

Many thanks for the replies.  The reason I asked is that, for the first time, I have a CD transport and DAC that have BNC connections and so wondered if there was any point in taking advantage of them.

It seems that, like many things in hi fi, BNC is logically better than RCA, but whether anyone would notice is a moot point..

The transport does, but not the DAC.
