powerav Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Had an Apple TV connected to my living room system for a couple of years now, connected to an Onkyo Tx 8270 via HDMI, I’ve always played 2 channel music from Roon or Apple Music to amp via Google cast or airplay thinking Apple TV was no good but today I thought I’d just try Apple Music lossless and Wow I was impressed, switch back to airplay and Google cast and Apple TV was far superior, I just don’t remember it being this good before, have they tweaked something in the last update? Of course the downside is you need an amp with HDMi input which limits you to about 0.5 percent of amps out there. 1
Steever Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I have an Apple TV which I modded to run off a 12VDC linear power supply. It sits in a bracket behind my TV sending video to the TV via a nice HDMI cable, and audio to my Auralic streamer (and DAC/pre, etc) via Airplay. We play Spotify (free) and Qubuz (studio) and while Qobuz direct from the streamer is “better”, the ATV is surprisingly good. So much so, I’m sometimes content to let it play this way all day for non-critical listening. 1
Hi-Fi Whipped Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Yeh I just use the std 4K version for pretty much all my listening, listening to Apple Music be it 2ch or Atmos is great via hdmi to my lexicon pre/pro, I purchased a zen stream for 2ch that doesn’t even get used now. 1
groovem Posted January 4 Posted January 4 You can upload all your cd's etc to iTunes Match and then playback on Apple TV. It costs $35.00 per year
