Tone Malone Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 I recently upgraded to a custom entertainment unit, fully integrated into the wall. One of my goals was to defeat the constant influx of dust (our entertainment unit is next to the back door) and while I've accomplished that mission, I've created another problem in the amount of heat now building up in the cabinet. (If anyone is thinking "rookie error" right now, yep ... guilty as charged.) I'm going to use some brushless computer fans to lessen the issue, but space is tight and i won't be able to get as much airflow as is ideal. I'm going to take a few more steps in combination to mitigate the problem, including selecting cooler running components where possible. Could anyone suggest: * A cool running 8 port internet switch? I currently run a Netgear GS108. * A mini PC that I can use as a media server with a 2tB SSD. I know some of these generate silly amounts of heat, but it doesn't need a lot of processing power, moreso the storage. Thanks!
Snoopy8 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Have you looked at options such as this to cool the cabinet? https://avaustralia.com.au/ac-infinity-aircom-s8-s9-s10-440mm-wide-trio-120mm-quiet-cooling-fan-system/ As for a mini PC, get the lowest powered one. Optionally, with passive cooling like an NUC elements https://www.asus.com/au/displays-desktops/nucs/nuc-elements/nuc-rugged-board-chassis-element/ And pair it with a compute element https://www.asus.com/au/displays-desktops/nucs/nuc-elements/nuc-11-compute-element/ 1
Addicted to music Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 You can get magnetic levitation fans, that are brushless and contactless, they have been around for over a decade. We have them run 24/7 5-8yrs without issues. if you really want to stopped dust entering the system place air filters infront of the fan inlet and check them periodically by cleaning the filters or replacing them. 1
