Honey Badger Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 I'm looking to purchase a new LCR and 2 subwoofers for a front theater strange to go behind an acoustically transparent screen. Was browsing the Krix website and was leaning towards 3x Krix Megaphonix speakers and 2x Cyclonix 18 subwoofers which came to around ~11k. After browsing the forum, it seems the modular MX systems are quite popular around here. The MX-10 is roughly the same price as the aforementioned package but the subwoofer drivers are much smaller at 12" which is making me wonder which choice I should go with?
Quark Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Krix seem to charge a premium for the MX10, I'd go the Megaphonix and 18" subs. 1

Krix Loudspeakers Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Thanks @Darryl. Hi @Honey Badger, The main installation difference between the two is that the MX systems are designed to slot into a niche of a certain width, height and depth. Installation is quite simple and each module has acoustic material on the front which then forms a consistent, rigid, treated baffle across the whole area. Some people choose to go the more ‘separates’ path and pick different screen speakers and subs from the SX/X range. This is a perfectly legitimate option – some choose to then spend a bit more time/money to fill the area behind the screen (around the speakers) with acoustic material or even build out the baffle entirely. It can be as simple or complex as you like, but we do suggest thinking about this to reduce reflections and other unwanted effects. The Megaphonix Flat are 150mm deep and the Cyclonix 18 are 310mm deep (without grille), with a height difference of about 330mm. Once you decide on the best installation method for your front screen wall, you can certainly enjoy the benefits of the bigger subs! I hope this helps. Cheers, Michael 1
