Hi everyone, I’m after a pair of xlr balanced inline attenuators to input into my power amp from the preamp. Reason is that the volume control on the preamp doesn’t allow much travel from a bit quite to too loud. After a -10db attenuator. I know Rothwell make some but impossible to find in Australia, Harrison labs may make them but never seen them listed anywhere. I came across a brand called robcon horizon iPad-10 xlr in line attenuator but I’ve never heard of them and they have a few different types so not sure which one I need. Anyone gave any ideas or can suggest a brand that’s available in Australia. In a separate system I have the Harrison labs rca inline attenuators between my chordette dac and graham slee headphone amp for a similar reason, the output from the chordette is too high for the headphone amp so little control over volume.

It looks like you can only get Rothwell xlr attenuator from Rothwell Audio in the UK. Decibel hi fi here in QLD only list the rca version, give them a call, they did sell them at one time.

The attenuators don't have much in them - just a couple of resistors.  There are circuits and calculators on the internet so they can be easily made.  Perhaps a generous (and more knowledgeable than me) SNA member could make a set for you.

Thanks audiofeline, you reminded me of the following I used to make my own attenuators long ago! They work.

Scroll down near the bottom to see how its done: http://www.uneeda-audio.com/pads/

More info here: https://k7mem.com/Res_Attenuator.html

Good luck should the OP want to make his own.

ps: I used 1% metal film resistors from Jaycar.

What's your issue with importing?
