tassiepete Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Hello, I have a Rotel RA1570 integrated and am about to start my journey into headphones. A pair of Sen HD6XX are on the way. While the RA1570 has a 3.5mm headphone output, I can't find any details about its power output. I expect that the HD6XX will sound a little so-so out of it (maybe). I am pretty sure I'm going to get an external head phone amp, something like a Schiit Lyr+ which has RCA in/out connectivity. But, I'm not 100% sure how to connect it. the RA1570 as two sets of preouts. the first is a standard stereo pair, while the second is a links out into the amp mains in. The manual specifies that both of these are variable outputs controlled by the volume control (and tone controls etc). How should I control the headphone amp volume? Can the RA1570 preout be changed to fixed? Or, do I need to set the volume on the RA1570 to something like 20, and then use the volume control on the Lyr+ to control headphone volume? Cheers
Darryl Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 I'd say just use the standard pre outs as there is no tape output on that Rotel model. You'll have 2 volume controls as you mention so experiment and see what sounds best. You can fix the volume for a specific input via the menu but if you're switching between headphones and speakers a lot it's probably not worth doing that. 1
