There has been a major shift in the TV manufacturing world over the last few years, with the dominance of Korean made TV panels by LG and Samsung, slowly overtaken by the Chinese.

Things have come to a head due to several years of successive losses by both companies, and some major trimming of products by both is now being put in place.

Read the article by David Richards in the link below to get a more detailed description on what's happening.

C.E.S in early January 2025 should be interesting.

It just seems, in so many areas, that quality is not good business.  The brands of TCL and Hisense are not what I’d ever consider, but here they move to the top of the heap.

For me it’s kind of hard to feel sorry for Samsung and LG as I still miss my Panasonic plasmas.  Also, with each company pushing their own technology, it’s incredibly confusing for the end user.

It’s not just TV, it’s a whole host of other products:  EV etc

A client has just bought a Chinese  branded finishing product that we import from Sweden for $80k plus. This thing does 75% of what this Swedish product does but cost the client $6k delivered from China!  Doesn’t have all the user interface but everything is mechanically adjusted, who cares, for that cost you’d wear the inconvenience.

Well SONY are using LED/LCD panels from TCL , OLED panels from LG and QD-OLED panels from Samsung.

Panasonic is sourcing it's OLED panels from LG.

Where the Chinese branded TV's fail pretty badly is with the writing of software for the TV's OS and processing, that's not something they can just steal, although I bet they have given it a good try.

Bet there’ll be many Firmware versions.  Not uncommon

Yeah, but that will be 6K down the toilet pretty quickly when they find out its failings, and trying to source spare parts for it.

That's what's happen in the UK with the Chinese flooding the market with cheap EV cars, the cars are dirt cheap, but there are no spares anywhere, the car is basically like a disposable lighter.

To be fair the Swedish product is a piece of junk,  we have to find a fix for every fault that occurs.  It’s one of the worst engineered and worst built quality I’ve ever seen.  Very over priced for what you get.   Hopefully competition will sort that out!

I own a Loewe Bild C.32 tv. Loewe previously used LG panels, but recently shifted manufacturing of panels in-house. Sign of the times.

Yeah and with built in spyware.

The U.S.A. is concerned that Chinese branded smart TV's fitted with mics and cameras, will be able to gather data.

If the TV is connected to the same router as your PC's and phones, well it's in your network.

I'm pretty sure the head of ASIO said the same thing in a National Press Club address a few months ago, they are also both concerned that terrorist organizations are using gaming platforms to communicate without the ability to be monitored, I don't think the NSA could even monitor the Playstation network as it works like a torrent site.

I also found it rather strange that exactly the same time that Israel attacked Lebanon, the Playstation network just happen to suddenly go down world wide.....coincidence ?

And poor quality control.  As I said, it seems producing quality is not a good business practice these days.  I can't bring myself to throw thousands at a new product when I'm expecting these sorts of issues.  TBO, I even have misgivings paying $6k for a Sony.

Well Samsung has some of the worse QC imaginable, and they are Korean.

You don't get to be the most complained about company to the consumer affairs dept in NSW for no reason

Exactly, and they hold the #1 share worldwide.  Go figure.

CES will be interesting to see who gets spoken about and what they're pushing, but I doubt it will excite me too much.  You've previously mentioned Sony don't do CES anymore, that's a pity as it helps comparing products when they're "side by side".
