jmouss Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Hi everyone. I recently put book shelf in my room. But before that I had boxes all over the room and the bass sounded really low and nice. But since I put the book shelf up against the wall, the bass sounds now muddy and boomy. But I can't go back and scatter crap all over the room again, because now the room is really tidy. He's a pick. What did I do wrong??
Cloth Ears Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Those boxes would have acted like as bass traps, but now you're left with the standard room problem. How many subs do you actually have, 2 or 3? It'll be the room nodes causing an issue where you are listening from and without DSP it can be a bit of trial and error. And a bit of weight training (depending on how heavy the subbies are). You could try placing one where you listen from, turn the other one(s) off, crawl around until you get the least muddy bass. Place first subby there. Leave the new one on. Place the next one (on) in your listening position. Repeat. You may find this ends up giving you a stack of subbies in one place, bu it may sound better than your current set-up. 1
jmouss Posted October 23, 2024 Author Posted October 23, 2024 Thanks mate for the reply. I've got 3 subs , they are the psa xs30s. Bro they are back breakers. I put the book case up cause it looked much neater. Also I thought it would be used as a diffuser. Someone also said maybe take my wardrobe doors off and it might sound better. Do you recommend stuff I can buy and place around the room to help this situation?

If not then placement is your best option. I would also try combinations of running 1 and 2 subs instead of all 3...you might have nasty summing going on. Mike
jmouss Posted November 17, 2024 Author Posted November 17, 2024 Thanks Mike. I actually took off my wardrobe doors and believe it or not the bass is so much better, it actually has more room to travel. Concerning dsp, I'm thinking of getting the denon x3800 and run audussey xt32. But your right, running 3 at once seem to be cancelling each other out.
Keith_W Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 If you have 3 subwoofers, consider Geddes multi-subwoofer method. In a nutshell, one goes into a corner, and the other two go into non-corner positions. One of these non-corner subs needs to be elevated.

I have great respect for Geddes - it was following his path for controlled directivity speakers that led me to my current Redspade PSE144 speakers. It's been years since I checked his site - I hadn't read this - thanks for the link Mike
