PMAAMP Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Evening all, I've recently returned from Japan, and while I failed to make it to any of the several listening bars I'd read about in Tokyo (including Bar Martha), I did pop into PM Sounds in downtown Kyoto (in the Kawaramachi district). It may already be a known venue for those who visit Japan regularly; but, in case not, it's worth a look see if you're in town, fancy a drink, and a listen to some vinyl. The bar's owner - Tadaaki Tonegawa - has built a lovely set up (with a pair of fine Garrard turntables at the vinyl front end, a Wadia spinner for discs, some Mark Levinson, JBL and Quad pieces, feeding a terrific JBL speaker stack), and a nice collection of albums. On the evening I was there, it was busy with a young crowd early, which elicited a more funk/pop sound. However, they quickly thinned out (something, I said!?) and I was asked what I wanted to listen to, so things swayed more toward The Duke, Coltrane, Miles, and some Beatles. 'Twas fun. The vibe was relaxed. The whisky was good. What's not to like? I've attached a couple of pics. 8
