Hi all, not sure if this is being posted in the right section, admins move/delete if not allowed

Ran into an issue with my subwoofer which seems to be shorting out and popping the fuse each time.

Tonight as I was testing the 3rd fuse, it sounded like there was a crackle/zap sound coming from the sub alone for a second or two then the power cut. Prior to that the sub was working as normal.

My question would be where would I start to look at what the issue is? Iam assuming it might have something to do with the amplifier/bash plate.

I've tried another power point & power cord with no success. Haven't changed out the RCA cable or tried a different amp.

The setup was working fine for years before this randomly happened.

There would be an internal fault which is causing the fuse to blow- unless you're a trained and/or experienced tech I'd suggest finding one and having it looked at professionally

The PSB subwoofer has its own power supply

So the problem will be that a component has failed in that power supply and needs to be serviced

@Full Range @Grizzly

Thought that would be the case, thought I'd ask for some advice in this situation incase it may be something external causing it to pop. I definitely won't be looking to repair this myself.

Would you guys think this would be a worth while fix or should I utilise this opportunity for an upgrade 😜

It’s prudent to judge the cost of repairs against the cost of an upgrade and what you can afford

Research is your friend and the most prudent choice

Don’t purchase anything just because you can, but what it can do for you

The subwoofer probably has a single channel power(only?) amplifier and supporting power supply (+/- rails). You are getting surges/spikes/... in dc voltage probably caused by a transistor or cap or... breaking down/leaking. The culprit could be in the power supply or the power amp stage. Since the amp is rather simple, fault finding is reasonably straight forward (with the required tools). You would be looking at a tech and 1-2hours work though this depends on accessability/build. Some people with skills would diy. The sub appears to be a budget item so cost prohibitive to repair.

After thought, sub may use a class D amp which IMO would complicate repair/costs

FYI, it might help to have a more descriptive title for the title, "Help" is very generic.  A title like "Help with subwoofer blowing fuzes" would be more likely to attract useful replies, and also help others searching the archives for a similar problem.

I've had hifi equipment that blows fuses in the past, very frustrating.  I hope you get a solution and your sub behaves itself in the future and you can enjoy the music.
