GC Hifi Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 We are excited to invite you to GC HiFi’s upcoming Get Together (GTG) on Tuesday, October 15th, from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. This event will feature Linn's latest three way speaker and various level Selekt DSM Streamer Hubs including the new tri-amped Selekt. Join us for an evening of exceptional audio experiences at our Arundel Gold Coast location, the Tuesday evening after the SNA Melbourne show. This is a fantastic opportunity for those unable to attend the show to explore the latest Linn digital front end products in a comfortable relaxed setting amongst other audiophiles, as any of you who know me I rate front ends of any system, be it digital or analogue as the most important part of any system and Linn design and manufacture some of the best, so this is a great opportunity to hear them in action. Adding to the experience of listening to the new Linn Selekt Hubs in action is the opportunity to hear one of Linn's own Michael O’Rourke, who is a senior member of Linn’s UK management team, he will be present to demonstrate the equipment and answer any questions you may have. As mentioned on show is the newest Linn DSM Selekt range of music streamers, DACs, and hubs across three dedicated listening rooms, each featuring various configurations of these outstanding digital audio components. Additionally, attendees will have the chance to experience the newly launched Linn Selekt Hub and the 150 floor-standing three-way speakers. To secure your spot at this exclusive event, please register using the link below. There are limited ticket numbers to ensure an intimate experience that allows for in-depth exploration of the Linn Selekt range and the new speakers' capabilities. As this is a weekday evening event, we will provide finger food and drinks upon arrival, followed by pizza later in the evening. If you wish to attend, please click the link below to help us with catering arrangements and to ensure you don’t miss out on this limited opportunity. For any further inquiries, feel free to call me at 0418 691 294. We look forward to seeing you there! Best regards, Terry. To Register Click Here 4 1
April Snow Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 (edited) Just back from another lovely event held at GC Hifi and hearing the Linn Speakers & hubs. It was a very educational evening and a fabulous turn out, everyone seemed to really enjoy the event and it was a great relaxing vibe. I will leave the technical parts to those that can explain it better than I can, but thank you to the hosts as always and to Linn for the lovely presentation and for the opportunity to see these clever products. Kirby66 Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Terry and Gloria never miss the mark when they graciously host an event at GC HiFi. Although it would be hard to imagine anyone not being aware of the revered heritage of the LP12 I've never owner one, no TT's for me since the sliver discs started spinning, so I'd had no connection with LINN as a brand. Michael O’Rourke from LINN HQ delivered a short overview of the brand's 51 year 'LINNeage' (sorry just had to do that) and led the demo's in each of three rooms. The demos were first class - the right mix of tech and listening with each room demonstrating the improvements to be gained as you move up the ladder as well as each one being focussed on a particular feature of LINN technology. Room 1 - LINN SELEKT DSM CLASSIC HUB - Michael discussed what a LINN DSM Hub is and demonstrated the difference between the Standard and Katalyst DAC's as well as how the product options / upgrades are implemented. This clearly communicated the LINN philosophy of easy upgrade being a primary consideration from the very start of the design process ... it really is plug and play in less time that it takes to make a coffee. The difference between DACs was immediate, obvious and significant. Room 2 - LINN SELEKT DSM CLASSIC HUB & 150 SPEAKERS - This Hub (the same base hub as Room 1) was configured with three separate Amp/Standard DAC modules (with more time I would have sought more info on the DAC module v AMP/DAC module but look forward to quizzing Terry on the specifics of these options). The 150 speakers are a 3-way speaker which do have crossovers however the crossovers were turned off for this demonstration of Space Optimisation and Exakt technologies. Exakt is a time alignment technology, as a non-technical person Michael's explanation of time alignment and what it brings was terrific. Space Optimisation models your specific room then removes distorted problematic frequencies. When the distorted frequencies are removed it allows the remaining sounds to be heard 'cleanly'. Room 3 - LINN SELEKT DSM EDITION HUB - The top of the Selekt family Edition Hub has a milled chassis (a number of rigidity and isolation benefits) and aesthetically is very pleasing ... understated opulence. It was loaded with the top level Organik DAC and the delivery of an orchestral track, very difficult to do well, was terrific. Although I'm not a fan of recorded orchestral music I pondered at the time that perhaps that's because I've not had a system that would deliver a 'live' like presentation with the scale and soundstage to do that genre justice. For a Tuesday night there was a terrific turn out, more guests than I can remember from previous GC HiFi events, so the way the team managed moving several groups of 6 - 8 through the three rooms one group at a time was just fantastic. I did not feel that anything was rushed or left hanging for the next demo. Always great to catch up with the 'repeat offenders' - you know who you are - as well as meet some new folks. Special mention to the youngest Audiophile I've ever met who, unsolicited and unprompted, asked a couple of great questions which showed he was listening to both the music and the tech !!! I'm not good with picking the age of youngsters but maybe 10 years old - Mum & Dad should be very proud (and maybe a little bit worried - maybe he wants a DSM HUB for Xmas rather than a bike). 4 1
Kirby66 Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Edit - @GC Hifi I made no notes and the memory is perhaps not what it used to be so if anything above needs correcting please do so. 1 1
Tim D Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 I just wanted to thank Terry, Gloria and Michael for a great night. Michael was very knowledgeable and demonstrated some very nice gear. Terry and Gloria, as usual, were wonderful hosts. Thankyou 3
GC Hifi Posted October 19, 2024 Author Posted October 19, 2024 (edited) A belated thank you to everyone who came along to the Linn evening, having over twenty people turn up on a Tuesday evening is impressive and meant we had to do split up listening sessions for each of the three rooms. Re the event, apart from catching up with a number of previous GTG guests it was really good to meet so many new faces, to top that off I very much enjoyed spending time with and listening to the excellent and entertaining presentation provided by Michael O'Rourke from LINN UK, who to say really knows his stuff would be a severe understatement. No GC HiFi GTG is complete without a few group pics, so here are a few to start off with to check out. More to come. ... Cheers Terry Edited October 19, 2024 by GC Hifi 5
