grammefriday Posted September 27 Posted September 27 I currently have a basic 8 pin power board but am wondering whether it is upgrading to something with added extras such as 'filtering' etc. Reason I ask is that I recently upgraded my system to mid-level range and would like to get the best out of it. I know this has probably been done to death and I have looked at past topics and comments but thought I would ask the question. I currently use Audio Principe Premium power cords for what it's worth. Thank you
muon* Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Well surge protectors are basically useless, as for filtering I daisy chained two Thor Duo's for my transport and DAC that helped them, but left the amp connected to the wall unfiltered as it lost dynamics when it went through the filter boards. 1
Cacofonix Posted September 27 Posted September 27 (edited) I've used PS Audio Dectets for many years. But these units have got wickedly expensive, $1395! Sight & Sound Galleria has the Dectets priced at $795 which is what they probably go for secondhand these days and what I paid for my last one new several years ago. Or try Win@SimplyHiFi in Perth, he may be able to help. Edited September 27 by Cacofonix 1
Kirby66 Posted September 27 Posted September 27 It's a sensible move to have all components in the chain at a similar level. Upgrading from a basic 'hardware store' variety power board to something that's designed for audio is very likely to deliver an improvement in a mid-level system with the benefit delivered to all connected components. As @muon* stated above 'filtering' power to amplifiers can have a negative effect. IsoTek make some relatively affordable power boards and they are common enough to come up for sale in the SNA classifieds fairly regularly. I use a Keces IQRP-1500 and EGM Power cables with a couple of Luna cables for the more power sensitive components. 1 1
thatmetalman Posted October 22 Posted October 22 If you're DIY confident and experienced/qualified with 240V Mains wiring, this is a good circuit Silcon Chip published years back. Was published in 2003 if you want to look it up here.
