Deestay Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Hi gang. I'm picking up a Wiim ultra streamer tomorrow, planning to run the streamers usb output into Duok xmos digital converter, then from Duok I2S output to my Denafrips Venus DAC I2S input Am I ok to use a standard hdmi cable from the Duok I2S output to the Denafrips DAC 12S input? Thanks
muon* Posted September 25 Posted September 25 It will work if the pin configuration of the Duok I2S output is the same as the Denafrips DAC 12S input. Not every manufacturer uses the same pin configuration with their i2s/HDMI interface. 1
Deestay Posted September 25 Author Posted September 25 @muon* Thanks! The Denafrips 12S input has adjustable configuration so should be fine. 1

OK, but you want the HDMI as short as possible, and while some say different cables will not make a difference, in my experience they definitely do.
Deestay Posted September 26 Author Posted September 26 Thanks again @muon*!! The wiim ultra came with a short hdmi cable, I plugged it in and the DSD light came on DDC right away, and the 24 bit 4x light on my Denafrips lit up instantly No pin reconfiguration needed on the I2S input on the Denafrips Background is a shade darker, and treble is further detached from the speakers now. Going to listen for a few hours, and then change the dac connection over to optical to do an A/B test so I can taste the snake oil 2
muon* Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) I've never used a DDC, my transport and DAC are directly connected via i2s, which was an improvement over RCA SPDIF. Edit: I tried a couple of cheap cables where one was definitely better than the other, then I had the chance to grab a NOS ETI HDMI cable (no longer available) and that was a nice improvement over the better of the two cheaper ones.
