Strewberrys Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Hi Fellas I recently relocated my rack to a different room to my home theatre (its more a media room atm, but the plan is to eventually get a projector and screen and turn it into a dedicated HT). I now need to extend my processor & zappiti IR's so that i can control them via the remotes from within the room, I purchased a standard IR extension cable however when i connect them to the IR connection on either unit, and then attempt to use the remotes, it simply does not work. Below is what the extender looks like, is there something I'm missing ? Is there more suitable options ? Perhaps there's a solution which simply captures any IR transitions from within the room and reproduces the same signal out into the room of the rack? Any help appreciated, I'm currently walking to the doorway and pressing the remotes when required, looking forward to do it while on the couch!
Hi-Fi Whipped Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I purchased a repeater from jay at which I’m pretty sure is what you will need. https://www.jaycar.com.au/4-channel-ir-extender-kit/p/AR1828?srsltid=AfmBOopgfU5uWd0xtG3GoAchsUwXGXfM5TPaM4LZ-QUzD1h9d9ZjgEym I also tried plugging a double ended 3.5mm plug from the repeater into my devices that have the remote input but couldn’t get them to work, in the end I just used the repeater cables and stuck them to the IR receivers of the device, has worked well ever since. 1
Strewberrys Posted September 16, 2024 Author Posted September 16, 2024 ok I think I've got it nailed, I need a powered IR Extender Kit, its a powered unit that sits in the room with you, you place the provided IR receiver cable into the receiver slot, you then run the emitters into the room where you'd like to broadcast the signal (where the rack is), the emitters will repeat the the same signal received from within the room and cast it out the emitters which are located in the other room. You can use extension cables to help run the emitters long distances where required (https://www.selby.com.au/cables/audio-cables/9m-3-5mm-stereo-audio-extension-cable-aux-headphones-sj8022-9m.html) There's a few kit options, https://www.selby.com.au/brands/resi-linx/resi-linx-wired-ir-remote-repeater-system-foxtel-approved-rlir100.html https://www.selby.com.au/av-distribution/ir-repeaters/ir-infrared-remote-control-extender-repeater-system-a1183a.html ill give one of these a go, and use the extension cables to run it into another room (its about 14 meters away) and see how it works.

I read the below which perhaps is the issue, hence the powered repeater / extender kit is the solution rather than a single cable via the processor IR input: "they will only accept a powered signal, this means a single 3.5 mm IR reception cable (or IR eye) will not transmit IR data if it’s not powered by an external box. You will need an IR Extender Kit that is powered by plugging it into a wall outlet. While many companies have abandoned this type of Extender Kit, you can still find them from 3rd party vendors like Amazon, Best Buy and Crutchfield." 1
