LancePeT
Hi any suggestions for this issue I am having. I have a PTP 6 running SME 3009 II improved detachable headshell tonearm through a ear yoshino into the R8. At low volumes all is good - however try and turn it up past a certain point and all hell breaks loose (not ridiculously loud) sound drops out distorts and hums buzzes pops etc. different cartridge and stylus - same problem (shure cartridges ) Plug cd player in - no problem plug different turntable in - no problem. its not the tubes its not the amp its not the cartridge - cartridge works on other decks. So does that only leave the tonearm and why would I get this ??? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. cheers
VanArn
It appears to be an acoustic feedback problem. The turntable's mounting plate should be suspended on damped springs from the plinth or the plinth itself should be mounted on an isolating base that prevents vibration reaching the stylus. There can also be issues with where the turntable is positioned and the arm damping arrangement used to control the low frequency resonance of the cartridge/arm resonance.
Quark
Are you on a timber floor? If so, a wall mount for the turntable is the first recommendation I'd make.
