New LG tv messed up evertything with htpc wont display picture in fullscreen -no hd etc even with arc cable solution?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced something like this- I upgraded to one of the LG CS oled models and found that my home theatre pc i built-(a ryzen 5600g on a high quality Asus mini-itx board high end psu etc) no longer worked I upgraded to the arc cable I got sound and display and then could no longer play netflix properly there are sync issues with sound etc and Youtube has a black bar accross the top and hdr doesnt work. Im running the tv straight from the 5600g through the motherboard and havnt been using a video card to keep it simple for sound quality less complicated etc. I have a ps audio stellar gaincell dac preamp and 2 ps audio m700 monoblocks so really dont want to get the crap optical digital signal from the back of the tv into the dac-is there another way?

Suspect you have HDMI compatibility issues.  The LG is expecting minimum of HDMI 2.1.  In theory, it is supposed to work with earlier versions, but...

What version of HDMI do you have for the cables (yes, they do matter) and the HTPC?  And you may have to update the HTPC HDMI ports?

yes your probably right-the motherboard although a top of the range one is a few years old now it is only hdmi 2.0 so thats probably the culprit-so is there some sort of pci card with hdmi outputs that can be bought or?-I can just buy a new motherboard even considering going to a ryzen 8000 model but i have not researched whether there is any sonic benifits from going to a ryzen 8000g dont really want to spend hundreds of dollars for somthing that makes no difference

Firstly I'd suggest diving in the video output settings and look for the HDMI config options.  On PC's with the right drivers you're often able to enable and/or disable various HDMI "features".  Have a look if you've got this capability and try turning off settings you don't specifically need to see if this stabilizes the output for you.  Also make sure the apps aren't enforcing their own processing and/or output features and are parsing control purely to the HDMI output hardware.  Whilst HDMI version compatibility is an issue, the problems you're describing sound like they ought be  resolved through software and /or driver setting, given you're using a PC.

What is it that makes you need a PC for home theatre? I stopped building Home theatre PCs some years back (was a big fan of mythtv). These days, very high performance streaming and playback is available in cheap little boxes - or even using the TV's builtin apps.

for starters if you control the type of motherboard used you can get top grad vrm modules on the motherboard and also high grade capacitors rather than the crap ones used in cheap mini computers and devices-also ripple free power supply makes a huge sonic upgrade-dont knock it until youve actually done the research and built it as its supposed to be built-It will blow away the integrated mini pcs any day of the week for sound quality-when your running something like a ps audio dac the difference is very noticeable too.-  Good news the two machines made friends and started talking to each other 🙂 the black line from youtube has gone and netflix is syncing properly I messed a little with display settings changed the aspect ratio and a couple of things

If you believe that, then good luck.
