Is it time to update or not?

Recommended Posts

So i have been changing / upgrading some of my 2 channel system for a while now (Eversolo DMP A6, Naim Nait Si5, Monitor Audio Gold 100 5g) and I have one of the original Klein Dac's. (AKM i think?)

Worth looking at updating or wont hear any difference  / improvement's from a comparative current day dac to justify the outlay? Say around the $1k - $1.5k mark give or take.

Any feedback from those in a similar place?

Cheers

Do you hear a difference between the Klein and the Eversolo's internal DAC?

Expect a microscopic upgrade, if any, from a new DAC. Advertising and excited discussion have done their work on the imagination, and likely turned the molehill into a mountain.

The Klein is a clear improvement to the internal Dac in the A6 to my ears.

But its a few generations old now so wondering what improvements can be expected from something more current.

Those early AKM dacs from Clay are just special, velvet sound like I’d never heard before, I owned two back in the day and loved every second I listened to them, only moved them on due to a system change at the time and the sound of a Bluesound Node + Klein SE DAC was easily superior to the $2500 Nad C658 I replaced it with.

If you have the chance to buy a dac at the right price where you can trial it and sell for similar money it may be worth trialling to scratch the itch but I wouldn’t sell the Klein to do it, may regret it!
