Ollie0967
Hi, I am trying to get some information on this amplifier but can’t seem to find any info on the net. All I know is that it was built in Melbourne. Attached is a picture of the power amplifier. Any information would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Wagon74
Lovely looking piece of tube vintage kit there! @xlr8or
xlr8or
There was company called Tubetronics that manufactured rectifiers and inverters in the more recent past, but I'm unsure if they had any linkage to the manufacture of valve amps. The power amp you have as a guess looks to be from the late 1970's to early 1980's based on its front panel appearance, the analogue VU meters and the wood trim and case panelling. What information are you after? I can help with tube configuration details and rolling options. Can you share some detailed photos of the layout inside? Ollie0967
Hi, thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Actually this is being offered to me for sale (actually part exchange), and that is the only picture I have received. I have asked for some more pictures to help with getting some more information & what would be a fair price. So far I have figured out the following: Dyne transformers 2 x 12au7 4 x 12ax7 8 x 6L6GC Thanks once again, much appreciated. Ollie
xlr8or
Thanks for sharing this update. I'm familiar with Dyne transformers. They were made in Melbourne and have been used in other AU valve gear such as the Trevor Lees' range of preamps. I've observed very high quality windings used in the Dyne PT and OPT iron. It would be good to explore what output tap options are also available (4, 8, 16 ohm, etc.). For the power valve section you're most likely looking at a PP AB1 UL configuration with 4 valves used per channel. I'd say you're looking around 60 watts per channel. There are many 6L6GC valve rolling options available, including new production stock. The amp may also be configured for straight triode PP mode as in the case of the EAR 890 amp. The input, gain, driver and phase splitter stages would be something like the 12AX7 configured for the input, gain and driver stages going to the 12AU7 for the phase splitter stage. @andyr may know more about the Tubetronics company being based in Melbourne circa the 1980's and may be able to chime in with some further details. Alas, Kirk ... I know nothing about Dyne traffos. But if good ol' Trev used them - they must be good.
