kiwilistener
Back in early 2022 I started on a new speaker build - the Aria II's. They are a bigger version of my original small tower Aria speakers. Two-way tower build... | DIY Audio Projects (stereonet.com) It's now been 2 1/2 years since I made them, and I thought it about time for a quick update. In a previous update I gave some examples of how the speakers perform on a variety of tracks from various articles. Two-way tower build...update & recap | DIY Audio Projects (stereonet.com) My apologies for not replying to Janus77's question regarding cost. From memory the project cost between $500 & $600 NZD. If I were to add my labour to this then the outlay would be in the 3k to 4k region. The equivalent price of the Sonus Faber Maxima Amator at the time were $24000 NZD. I feel I have a bargain in comparison. Design cues for the speakers were from the Sonus Faber Cremona line but with more of the look of the Amator. Are they as good as the Sonus Faber speaker? - doubtful - but I would like to think I have something that's close to 70% of what the SF Amator is. Interestingly the tweeters are now far more forgiving than they were at the start. This is the first time I have had an easily discernable break-in period on a tweeter. I never really considered that as a tweeter got more use it could settle as much as these units have. Still very crisp and airy bit they don't have as much harshness to them when they encounter poorly recorded soundtracks. To date I'm well pleased with these speakers, however the designer in me has some ideas on what a next project may look like based on this design.
