kimboo Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Hi, I came by a Luxman PD 284 turntable and am unsure if the stylus and maybe cartridge needs replacing. Because the headshell isn't easily removable I'm having trouble working out what is on it. Would anyone know what cartridge and stylus this is? Also prefer to just buy a new stylus without changing the cart... Thank you
Guest Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Cant help with identifying the cart but definitely the stylus would need to be replaced. Another easy option is a new cart and stylus replacement.

Batty Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Try taking the cart off the headshell and see if the model number is written on the top of the cart.

The headshell is integrated into the tonearm so it's a little more complex than just taking the cart off and checking for model number. I see same model Luxman TT's with Ortofon and Audio Technica headshells so there are possibilities for a new cart and stylus. I was hoping I could get away with just a new stylus.
stevoz Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 (edited) The cart and stylus are both Grace F8....which model of F8 I couldn't totally be sure (depends on the stylus) but I'd put my money on it being an F8L. Even though it's not 'top of the range' it's still a nice cart indeed....as all Grace carts are. http://20cheaddatebase.web.fc2.com/needie/NDGRACE/F-8L.html (needs translation to English). Has it not got 'Grace' printed on the bottom, as in the pic's on the above link? BTW, styli for Grace carts are quite hard to come by now but can still be found on ebay. Here's one, with cart but affordable: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/405103002992?_nkw=Grace+stylus Here's another, stylus only in original packaging, claimed 'new/unused', much less affordable: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/196492060661?_nkw=Grace+stylus ....and another, again with cart but less than the above stylus only and also in original packaging: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/387308534007?_nkw=Grace+stylus Good luck. kimboo Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 Thank you. I will keep an eye on ebay. Yes I've managed to see the underside of the cart and it is a Grace. 1
