denimhunter
Hi I am hoping to get SET 50 amplifier, any recommendations? Only vintage globe 50 be used with the amp. Any boutique Japanese or European manufacturer of interest? Not particularly interested in Chinese amps. I am using yamamoto soundcraft 45 amp at present. Thanks for the input. xlr8or
I see some come up occasionally for sale on Yahoo Aleado from time to time. As I'm a frequent browser and buyer I'll contact you if I come across any. One other option to consider is getting a good SET amp that uses Tango iron configured for VT25 10Y 801 801A use and modifying that to also use the type 50 tube. I have access to a few Japanese designed circuits configured around the use of the type 50 tube (http://tomo.fine.to/V.World/50SE-J.html). Another option to consider is reaching out to Steve Berger from Aprilsound in NY and enquiring about the Uchida Bronze 50 monoblocks. You could try reaching out to both and seeing what they can whip up for you. statman
I had a stash of 50 tubes some 30 years ago, built a SE with Tango XE 3.5 opt. It was ok, but 211 appealed more at the time. I didnt think the 50 was better than the 2a3 or 45 . Got offered a stupid price and they all went to Japan with a batch of WE 300B's. Nobu Shishido ended up with the 300B, probably made a nice profit, but I was pretty happy. Never saw another 50, couldnt care.
Plasmod3
the type 50 is a very special tube. it has a very alluring sound and is what the 300b should be really but never was . I use it as a push paull pair in a preamp and the effects are quite phenomenal. thats the solid plate globe type ie. the mesh is even better - i have a few of these ....will never venture to use them though given their rarity. I think these will likely stay in their boxes for good
