crisis Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Heard that this morning. I never got there but always wanted to. Unfortunately the cost of live performances had gotten quite extreme and I guess in the current economic conditions it might be beyond peoples expendable income. It also made me wonder if this was just a natural progression. I remember when BDO was pretty much the only festival in town. Others seemed to grow on the back off it. Maybe festivals have also run out of grunt?
Ian McP Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 It hasn't been much a "bluesfest" for some years now, pretty mainstream rock. Last Bluesfest (East Coast Blues & Roots Festival 2004) I went to had a class lineup! enjoyed James Brown Solomon Burke Femi Kuti Burning Spear Toots and the Maytals Dr John Taj Mahal and Pharoah Sanders! 2
David A Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 (edited) I went to the Byron Mud Bluesfest in 2009. The highlights for me were The John Butler Trio, Tony Joe White, The Blind Boys of Alabama and Ben Harper. That was when the festival was more of a proper blues fest.
