Tone Malone Posted August 12 Posted August 12 I've just sorted an issue with audio dropouts to my stereo via TV optical out, by changing the type of DAC I used. An alternative was to try a reclocker or purifier to try to reduce jitter, so my existing DAC would be able to handle the signal. But these devices are still typically $100+ and I couldn't find much on the 'net to suggest actual users had much joy with them (although there's no lack of praise from some reviewers). So I wanted to ask the community here: have you had any success with a digital reclocker or purifier, such as the Wired4Sound Remedy Reclocker or the iFi iPurifier? And are there any cases out there where they've actually resolved jitter to the point of stopping dropouts?

Gryffles Posted August 13 Posted August 13 (edited) Buy an actual streamer. Reclocking the signal from a TV seems like polishing a turd. IFI Zen Stream seem best of the bunch if on a tight budget. Edited August 13 by Gryffles
aussievintage Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Please read previous threads on such topics and the huge arguments and differences of opinion. As you have found on the net, they don't do much, but even my saying that will cause people to react and say that they can hear a difference. As suggested above, get a proper streamer and use a USB interface if you want an external DAC, then there will be no need for these devices.
Tone Malone Posted August 14 Author Posted August 14 (edited) Responses above acknowledged, and at some stage I'll likely revert to a dedicated streamer. The use of the TV optical out is a compromise for family convenience right now. I'm still curious though to see if any members have successfully used a reclocker or purifier to overcome dropouts they were experiencing in their audio? (Ie, something that's more quantifiable than subtle changes in SQ). I may get crickets in response to this specific question ... but worth a try. Edited August 14 by Tone Malone Typo
