Zagreus Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Hello, Is there anything else you can add to a headphone set up to get more out of it? I have and amp, dac and streamer in my set up and am curious as to what else i can do for my set up other than upgrade the equipment, i am quite new to hifi so i dont have much knowledge in this field and want to get the most out of this. What does every else have in their set ups? And what do you all recommend and is it worth it? 1

doogie44 Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I pimped out my Sennheiser HD600 headphones with very comfortable ear pads from Dekoni Audio. Then I bought a Nordost Blue Heaven dedicated cable. Great stuff if you value relaxation and clarity/detail as I do. But the best part of my headphone setup is the driving amplifier(s); note that none of these will break the bank--yet teach competes at the highest levels (IMO). Brace for shameless name dropping: 1. I usually have the Little Dot Mk4 SE headphone amplifier with Voshkod NOS 6ZH 1P-EV & Mullard NOS M8100. Stop the fight, we have a winner... 2. Sometimes I will use the dedicated headphone output from my Elekit 8200 integrated (triode/UL/pentode). Bliss. 3. At the desktop it's the Line Magnetic 219iA Mini single-ended pentode in play. The hours flit by... Black velvet background atmospheres; pellucid and transparent music making; ethereal harmonies What more could I ask for (even if there are purpoted bigger, dearer and 'better' setups)?? An embarrassment of riches, I know. I suppose that this is a roundabout 'plug' for using tubes--and the best tubes-- in the headphones' signal path where you can! Not that one is biased towards tubes in any way, no, in one's dotage one merely listens and perceives while counting one's goosebumps. 1 1
Steever Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I recently tried a USB filter between my laptop and amp. It’s made by a brand called iFi. I thought the improvements were enough to keep it in my system. Prior to that, changing from a cheap USB cable to a Nordost branded one saw this staying in the system too. I’d also make sure your source material is high quality too. I.e: higher bit rate files if it’s digital you’re using. 2

Before tweaking with cables, filters, etc. you might be able to get bigger gains from swapping a component.
