TerryO Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 (edited) Well after several years of seriously enjoying our trusty X9900 it’s finally time to replace it with something new and as I mentioned in the title that something is the new BenQ W5800. After seeing it in action at the Sydney show a few months ago and being very impressed by it I decided that maybe it was finally time to get a laser projector. I’ll be up front here, while we watch movies, YouTube and everything screen related on our projector rather than the TV I had never up until now considered stocking one, as GC Hifi up until now has been purely about 2 channel, so this W5800 is not only our daily watcher it is my first step into expanding GC Hifi in H/T, all be in a small way. So it finally arrived on our door step today and all going well I hope to install it over the weekend, can’t wait to see it in action. Out of interest has anyone else also got one of these? cheers, Terry Edited August 1, 2024 by TerryO 7
brodricj Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 Interesting decision to change from LCOS to DLP. X9900 is an old model but it still throws a very satisfying image in a dark room. I see no reason to upgrade mine. 1

TerryO Posted August 16, 2024 Author Posted August 16, 2024 (edited) Well I have had the BenQ plugged in and playing for several days now and to say I’m impressed would be an understatement. I have not touched any of the settings, just plugged and played. I took some still pics when I was streaming Top Gun yesterday on my old iPhone 13 from my sitting position then cut and cropped them to see how they looked zoomed in.. Shame I can’t share on here the videos I took because they look even more impressive. Anyway not to shabby I reckon … cheers, Terry Edited August 16, 2024 by TerryO 7
hemo cave Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Hi, Just wanted to ask if you are still happy with the Benq W5800 compared to the JVC X9900 , Are you missing the black level or its not that noticeable after all. Regards
