fordriver1
Setting up my theater room as a 7.2.4. currently have a 7.2 AVR but will sell it to run the above setup. Will need an 11 ch AVR, but general consensus seems to be 9 ch with 11 ch processing, and amp to drive LCR would be a better option. I'm leaning toward Denon or Marantz. My room is not large- 5x4m give or take so won't need huge power. I like quality sound, sometimes at higher levels, but am not an audiophile, so may not tell the difference between mid/ high end. Speakers are Krix- Harmonix mains, vortex centre, dynamix surround x 4, a50 atmospherix Atmos x 4, SVS PB12-NSD 12 subwoofer. Suggestions for a more budget oriented amplifier? Thanks Edited July 25 by fordriver1 Forgot sub.
betty boop
Most of us have been here will find 3ch amps around but rare as and resale is terrible ! most folks will buy an amp to cover the base channels these days so either 5 or 7 ch and let the AVR cover the heights ? there are usually more 5 and 7ch coming up and reasonably affordably 2nd hand if on a budget ? They can be quite high quality still eg rotel elektra the alternative is just the 11ch AVR ? By the time add AVR and amp might be cheaper or as expensive depending how look at it to get the more ch avr anyways ? what is your budget for AVR plus amp ? as a note your Krix are good I wouldn’t scrimp on avr amp to drive a good denon or marantz would cover it … go superseded or back catalog to save cash ! Don’t have to go latest greatest. Sometimes come up 2nd hand or also look out for dealer demo as model changes usually happen annual or at least every 2 or so years with avrs Edited July 25 by betty boop
betty boop
I’d be trying to grab an x6700 at under $5k https://www.videopro.com.au/product/denon-avcx6700b-11-2ch-8k-av-amplifier/? Edited July 25 by betty boop
fordriver1
Was maybe thinking X3800, retail is $2500 but they will come on sale, or start popping up second hand. Then if I can find a used amp for 1- 1.5k ish? Not a bad outlay for the return I would think. And perhaps a better outcome than an 11ch amp. Not sure tho . More than happy to buy used as most of my stuff so far is 2nd hand. Centre came from a member on here

Thing is you get a better AVR as go up eg with 6700 it’s not just amp channels.. you get better heat sinks, dac, analog stages, power supplies. Better processing and pre stages … the 3800 is really what uses to be a 2 series 3ch amps very rare if ever come up instead of 800series denon go 700 as you will likely get your 11ch lot cheaper if look at price deference elektra $1200 for an old 3ch, $1500 for an old 7ch. Absolutely no reason to go brand new latest especially if looking for a bargain. also do you need full latest 4k -8k ? Most don’t … these are not the hd series amps so very old will need a service at least I’d suggest that’s another $300 or so ? old rotel 5ch in classified but again we are talking very old now there were some 3ch primare … rare occasionally an old arcam 3ch might pop up, but that too is really getting on now ?

Thanks This is the exact configuration that I have in my mind for my planned 7.2.4, except with 2 SVS SB2000s. My room size is also similar to yours. Have you finalised on the receiver and amps?

Moving in to the new build in the next couple weeks, so will be setting it up soon. The 4 Atmos are in, and started to install the surrounds. 2

What's the main reason you choose x8500ha over x6800h? Very keen to see the final setup and performance
