Beyond Salvation Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 So, have just bought a pair of Monitor Audio GX300 floorstanders. Am going to make these the front set & put B&W CM9's as rears. Have a Monitor Audio gold signature centre & an older 10" B&W sub. Amp is just a Yammy RX-V1073 though I have a spare NAD C355BEE & if i can work out how, am thinking of using it to drive the M.A. fronts (bi-amping) Do you think this will sound good? Cheers, Johnno
wen Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 Connect it all up and see how it sounds to "you". Everyone has a different idea of what sound right to them. Room , music, cables, many factors which will affect the end result. 1
Beyond Salvation Posted July 24, 2024 Author Posted July 24, 2024 I guess that's it, plug & play eh. I better check out carefully how to bi-amp.
Beyond Salvation Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 Ok, so am finding the Monitor Audio GX300 too bright so want to use the front pre outs on the Yamaha RX-V1073 to go to a NAD pre amp C 165BEE (so i can back the treble down) then to a power amp. Is there any issue doing this?
Kirby66 Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Hey Johnno, you might get more HT / Multi Channel advice if you were to repost this in the HT forum ... can't help myself - two speakers at a time in my place https://www.stereonet.com/forums/forum/17-home-cinema-general-discussion/
Cafad Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 How did you manage the bi-amping? I would think you would have been better off using the NAD C355 on the fronts and running pre-outs from the Yammy AVR into an input on the NAD. So not bi-amping at all. Then you could just swap inputs on the NAD when going from music to movies (I'm assuming you have different sources for movies and music).

I did try the Yammy to NAD pre then nto an old Kenwood Basic M2 power amp as it has a heap of grunt but the path will be less & the C355 should be better sq than the Kenwood (though it's not too bad) I play a lot of stereo & surround music discs, the occasional lp but not so many movies. Cheers
Beyond Salvation Posted August 11, 2024 Author Posted August 11, 2024 I meant to say doing the pre amp etc certainly fixed the brightness issue. Hopefully the C355 by itself will do the same.
Beyond Salvation Posted August 15, 2024 Author Posted August 15, 2024 So, ended up using the bi-amp function on the Yammy amp for the MA GX300's. (I had gotten it recently & forgotten it had this function.) So, not as high end as most of you but sounds pretty damn good to my ears. System is; Yamaha RX-V1073 receiver Fronts: Monitor Audio GX300 (bi-amped) Centre: MA Gold Sig. Rears: B&W CM9 Sub: MA Bronze Players Sony UBP X800 Oppo BDP103 Pioneer 676A Now must resist cranking all the time - think I have damaged my ears already! Will use NAD elsewhere. Thanks for your comments J
