I tried testing the speed accuracy of my Pioneer direct drive with the turntabulator app.
it’s come in at 32.8. I was disappointed but looking online that seems to satisfy a lot of people.
I’m interested in hearing what you have to say about this .

Hello Peterbean,

What is the accuracy of the app you are using ? How do you ascertain it's accuracy ? Do you have a receipt of adjustment ? Because all the app I tested are way out of order and this depend on Android version and phone used.

Of course, your turntable may be out of order also, but you can't tell for sure until you are sure of the accuracy of the app.

Just my 2 ¢....

I used RPM too with similar results and it also picked up v high wow and flutter

I have no idea about accuracy of the pd but they have good reputations

Apps are not accurate at all. My SP10MK2'S and my G measure fast if I believe the app, but they are not.

I have used the RPM WOW app and it lines up pretty close to the speed I get from the motor FG (frequency generator) on my Technics SP10mk2.

1.6% is quite a bit slow, it would have C4 1/2 way down to B3 on a piano keyboard. Almost B# if there was such a note..

I'm not familiar with the Pioneer but I know the Technics Quartz TT's speed is directly proportional to the reference oscillator. I had an SP10mk2 on the bench 2 weeks ago that was spinning at 34.6rpm nearly 4% fast. Yep someone had replaced the oscillator with an incorrect value once I installed the correct value the TT was close to bang on speed.

I think it depends on the phone, my s20 ultra was 33.3 on my G, but my new s23 ultra has it and my other Technics it shows 33.5.

There are affordable laser tachometers from ebay/china that would probably be more accurate than a phone.  The one I bought works well.

As Cliff said - get it fixed!

Way too slow.

Why do you use a phone app - a strobe disc is much simpler to use ... and I suggest more accurate.  But of course ... it costs more than a phone app does.

The Pioneer has a speed lock light which goes on when the deck is spinning accurately

st 33 it is shaky but at 45 it is spot on solid light

results from rpm attaxhef

This is the tachometer I bought.  A search on ebay or ali express and similar sites will bring up lots of sellers for it, at lots of prices.

This is a pic on Jaycar (now discontinued, it was a good price) https://www.jaycar.com.au/digital-tachometer/p/QM1448

I would expect the new version on Jaycar is also available on the web markets, at a guess they probably have the same electronics in a different plastic case.

Hello

These "laser" tachometer use the laser just to point you in the measurement direction. They will run even without the laser beam...

Vinyl engine has a DIY strobe light of very high accuracy which permits to use precisely a stroboscope dot pattern to be checked.

The device DIY posted above is also a good speed measurement device. (and same principle of the Jaycar posted above). (basically, you use a contrast mark on the turning piece. This contrast produce a spike in a photo transistor. you only have to measure the time between two spikes and calculate the RPM which correspond... Not rocket science but need to be done precisely if you want accuracy. Hence the 50 PPM quartz oscillator.
