THOMO
Another pair of Gale 401s being restored.I have never seen anything like this before. What on worth would have caused this sort of fire/burn out? The L pads attenuators are badly burnt and the coating off the wires has melted.Even the fibreglass stuffing near it was melted. Yet to determine the full extent of the damage to other crossover components but I would not be surprised if they are all ruined.Surprisingly all the drivers seem fine .Maybe the fuses saved them?
evil c
Must have been an Arc welder connected up, like a Krell ! Or mains power somehow got introduced!,??
Keith_W
Speaker committed suicide so that it did not have to play Taylor Swift. 2
THOMO
Funny you say that because just this morning I texted my local ABC begging them not to play any more melody free shouty chants passing as music[Taylor Swift]. Apparently this was done years ago and the speakers left unused since. So it might have been Celine or Mariah rather than Taylor! 2
zenikoy
To avoid endless googling, I thought I'd ask here....... Has anyone designed/implemented a crossover for these that deletes the midband & treble attenuators?
THOMO
Yes.Also includes replacing the 60uF and 80uF caps on the midrange which were wired in series with a single 34uF [33uF] which is the same value.
