Spider27
Hello, My vintage speakers starting to develop problem on one speaker and found that a large air core inductor failed when I do continuity test so might need to replace the specific inductor and there is no crossover schematics online and contacted manufacturer but no response so far so may have to find out myself and replace it. Does anyone enlighten me how to find the value of inductor value in crossover? Do I need proper oscilloscope or can it be found out using multi meter too? Any guidance would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.
muon*
LCR meter, measure the good one in the other speaker for inductance. Edit: odd for a speaker inductor to fail. Edited July 4 by muon*
surprisetech
Agree with muon. Very odd for a large inductor.to fail. if you’re anywhere near Rowville or Emerald, I can loan you an LCR meter.
Spider27
@muon* @surprisetech Thank you for both of you. After reading your comment that it is odd for large inductor to fail, I rechecked with a magnifying glass to see if there is any broken joint and bad solder and found that one end of large inductor has cracked solder. After good flow of solder, it is now working again. Thanks again..

If not, a cable tie &/or a little hot glue might be worth considering. Happy listening!

I just checked again and the cause inductor wire one side not solid was hot glue was come off from crossover board there was a gap. I just applied hot glue on it too to ensure that it is solidly holding together. 1
