Early NAS days born from necessity, as my streamer requires one for it to be fully functional. How does the 2.5 SSD fit into the QNAP TS-431K bay? Can I use a generic 2.5 to 3.5 adapter or is it a specific QNAP piece of kit or non of the above? Thanks in advance.

You should be able to buy a 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor, see below link:
ORICO 2.5 to 3.5 Hard Drive Adapter HDD SSD Mounting Bracket Tray for 7/9.5/12.5mm 2.5 Inch HDD/SSD with SATA III Interface : Amazon.com.au: Computers

NAS newby here. Had no success getting a Synology DS120 NAS communicating with my modem, so I bought a QNAP 431K. How does the SSD fit into the bay? Am I missing an adapter or some other hardware. Thanks in advance.

Screw holes line up with the holes on the far right of the bracket as you've pictured it (and the drive needs to be turned over).

Thanks to both of you for the quick response. Found them on ebay at lower cost than the Orico so will order a couple.

Adapters are not needed!

@oldrose Unfortunately the holes do not correspond to the correct position of the drive when plugged in, so looks like the adapter might be the answer.

Did you manage to get sorted with your SSD?

I have a Synology 12 bay Rackstation with a 12 bay extension. The drive caddies are all pre-drilled to accept HDDs and SSDs via different sets of screw holes without any adapters.

I'd be surprised if any of the other NAS manufacturers don't do the same.
