Hi Guys,

Good day, can anyone please help me how to clean and maintain a speaker?

Thank you

Have a great day.

It's really hard to tell from the photo, but are you sure that's mould?

I wouldn't suggest putting bleach anywhere near a loudspeaker or veneer, personally.

First I would probably take a vaccuum close but not directly on it and see what comes away. Even, the opposite, a can of compressed air from a distance. Ideally you don't want to blow whatever is there in behind that grille though. Does anyone know if those grilles are removable?

Failing that, a more natural product and a microfibre cloth. Eucaplytus oil, perhaps.

I had persistent mould spots on a paper based speaker driver, lightly removed the mould with a slightly damp cloth, water only. Continued the treatment for a couple of months each time it started to return and eventually it didn’t return.

Sunlight (UV) kills mould spores.  Maybe try the sunlight and then see if the residue will blow  or brush off.

I am with @Marc.

Almost anything other than bleach?

If it's mould, then trying @awayward's method is worth trying I think, plus adding use of a dehumidifier, especially during wet weather.

If you lived where @awayward and I live (mid north coast NSW - humid much of the time) I too would be thinking mould. And using a dehumidifier to follow up other treatment(s)

In WA, where I gather it has been pretty dry for ages .........  could it be something else?

Googling "mould removal in electronics" (or similar),  brings up a variety of approaches which others have tried in various scenarios.

Thank you all, for the message. Will clean the speaker with damp cloth. Will let more sun/ventilation into the room.

Most of the time my stereo room is closed and used only when music is listened.

Thank you 🙏 all

Looking again at your photos, perhaps  careful cleaning using cotton buds might work well?

With humid weather where you live, I would definitely consider using a dehumidifier for a couple of hours 2-3 times a week in the long term (or a reverse cycle air con for long term benefits).

Good luck with it.
