Extra Info:

If I was to find a pair of these, surely it would be here.  Someone that has held onto a pair for that “One day” moment.  Here it is.

Would be open to replicas and or near fits as well. Original ones are preferred though.

Ideally in VIC for an easy pick up but flexible to other states.

Thanks in advance

I bought a couple of pairs of replica ones from England about 10 years ago.  There was a bloke on a Gale website who was having them made in batches and he was happy to ship internationally.

I'm happy to chase up the details  tomorrow if this option is of interest.  The quality was fine and I considered the price including shipping was pretty reasonable.

Basically identical to the originals except the tubing was slightly thicker gauge and there was no seam at the front - ie better, but look the same.

Hi Tony,  thanks for reading the WTB and responding.

Definitely happy to research them if you are happy to find some details for me.

I appreciate your time.

This is the website:

https://www.vintagegale.com/stands.php

Hope they are still able to supply them.  I really think the chrome Gales are happiest on their proper stands, even if they are replicas.

Love the Berris Conolly photo in your OP too.   FWIW, I was able to buy quality prints of this for framing from the photographer himself.  I can chase up the link to this to if it is of interest.

Thanks Tony.  Seems like the links on the. Website are all broken and there is no method of contact off the link. Not sure if it is just me.

ooh!  Keen to have a look at the links for the prints.  As highly unlikely I will have the space (code for low WAF) would be great to have in case things change.

I just sent a message on the website "enquiring for a friend" re the stands.  It seemed to go through OK.  I'll let you know if I get a response.

Unfortunately, the one to Berris Conolly appears to be broken.  He seemed pretty old when I bought the prints from him, maybe 10 years or so ago.

It is probably easy enough to get a pair bent up but the cost of chroming is very high now.I believe due to it being quite toxic and requiring strict workplace safety equipment.Hot rodders would probably be the best people to ask about the best place to get things chromed.

Thank you. Potentially easier though, you are right.

I looked at getting the Chromes re done and the price of it was on the border of ludacris.

So much so that for a few moments I considered plasti dipping them Matt black.

I heard back from David in the UK who supplied my stands about 10 years ago.

Unfortunately, he has had to discontinue them due to escalating production costs. 😞  I expect the chrome plating would be a major component of this, not to mention freight, which was reasonable then but probably prohibitive now.  The last place I used for chrome plating in SA has recently closed up permanently and the factors @THOMO mentioned are probably responsible.

However, @Grizzly had a pair with locally made reproduction stands finished in black a few years ago and they looked really good - so maybe this is your best option.  Not the same as the original but maybe more in tune with today's aesthetics?

Thanks for following that up. I appreciate it.

Seems like chrome is getting pretty experience across the board.

I contacted close to 6 local places that did plating around the SE of Melbourne and the quotes were close to $800 just for the 4 end caps to be redone.

Would be great to hear back from @Grizzly on his stands. I have no issues with the black ones either. Preference is to keep it as close to original however my partner is yet to come around on how classy the chrome can actually be in the right setting.

I know people in WA who were sending stuff to get chromed in Adelaide because even with shipping costs it  was cheaper and the quality was good.

Yes I agree black powder coated might be the best option.
