Mmm… I answered then it disappeared. Anyway, I was saying that the pre-prod unit might have had some damage in being shipped around the World. I’m investigating. But the prod NZ900 should be much better/

However, I’ll say this… you could get an NZ800, and if you like it, then you could save some cash. It is NZ9 level plus I recon…

Well I dont need anymore lumens on the screen that the NZ900 might bring to the table over my current NZ9. However if it brings much more to the table like contrast, blacks etc etc and its way better than the NZ800 then I would pay the extra for the NZ900, but first I have to see reviews that show how much better it is.... At this stage its all a bit of a waiting game on the NZ900 for all of us...

I have 145" curved scope microperf ST 130G4 screen with an Isco IIIL on a Cineslide with my current NZ9. I use JRiver with 3000 odd BDs ripped to a Nas, with some UHD 4K content. I upscale everything to 4K through the HTPC and use JRVR for tone mapping which our friend Manni also uses today. I had madvr PC for years but the development of JRVR and its tonemapping is something else, plus it also delivers Geometry correction which only the Envy has. So I say a very big thumbs up for JR JRVR, it does everything one could want for professional HT.

Well, it looks like the lens brings a lot more light but not really more contrast at the same throw as the NZ800, even if you get a good sample. An NZ800 has as much chance of having really high contrast as an NZ900. Same with previous gen. But the lens is indeed very good. So you need to decide if that’s worth the upgrade. Contrast spec is higher but because the lens is longer throw capable… But the uniformity on this NZ900 is excellent.

If you live in Sydney, you’re welcome to pop in to have a look

at the two! That goes for any longtime member. Just PM me. Cheers!

I live in Auckland NZ so its not so easy to pop over 🙄 Uniformity is the thing Im really interested in, Im so tired of years of bright corners on every single top end JVC Ive had. If the 900 is even better than the 800 for uniformity Im very happy!

I can tell you, the NZ900 is very good uniformity-wise. It’s much better than my NZ800 even. It’s excellent! So if that’s your concern then I think it’s probably a good bet, yes.

I was just doing some calibration on it today and need more time as AutoCal is playing up on it. But managed to get one picture mode dialled in, and it’s starting to look really good. I think people won’t notice the contrast difference (unless they put it next to a very high-performing sample). I didn’t think at any point during some flicking through materials that the contrast was lacking…

…and I can get this tighter. Just AutoCal is certainly still buggy. Some real weird **** 😋 anyway all good. Probably just a glitch. Reset seems to have kicked it out of a funky loop.

Do you think you can get a production sample of a 900 and do a review sometime? Would be great to have a double side by side 800 vs 900 review!

That would be a very long shot, man, even the US guys are not usually in that position unless they pay for it. Unless someone is willing to volunteer their unit… as far as I know only one unit was allocated to Australia so far, while around 7 for the NZ800? Something like that. It might be a while until we get another shipment. Not sure.

Took the plunge! Loving the NZ800 so far, amazing picture quality and its not calibrated yet. I'm coming from an Epson 9400. Looked at the Sony 7000 and decided on the JVC. Not disappointed at all. Looks amazing on the 130" Oztheatre Scope AT Screen.

It is indeed pretty awesome.  If anyone is interested, my NZ8 is up for sale. It is no slouch either, especially if you're into movies, and not as much into gaming... happy to negotiate a discount if you're from Stereonet... haven't put it up on the classifieds yet, only on gumtree.

Just incase anyone is weighing up if they should get their projector calibrated, DO IT! I had the awesome Tony O'Brien @Clarity Calibration come out and spend a few hours perfecting the image. To be honest I did't think the image on the NZ800 could get that much better. I was wrong. Stellar job Tony!

Blacks are even deeper. Colours are noticeably richer, and detail is next level. I keep going in the room and rewatching movies that were great before and are amazing now.
