The two outer boards are the MC the next two are MM boards and the inner ones are the Preamp boards

Hi Sam ,when I first heard it I knew it was something really special .The way it handles cymbals and snare drums in particular is like nothing I have ever heard from an audio component before .absolutely lifelike .

            There was the typical Stax sound ,a little bloated in the midrange and slight loss of focus in the bass .I knew that the brown 1uf  mylar bypass  caps were causing that, so I removed them from the two centre boards ,and bingo ,instant major  improvement in the bass and mids  .The other boards also contain the same caps which are in parallel with the main power supply ,so they also went .then it really began to come on song .

            I set up some  screw terminals where the caps were ,so I could easily swap out caps in a few minutes with a screwdriver  the first ones that went in were  .01 uf bypasses as these don't cause  subjective frequency shifts like  the larger ones .I think its very close to perfect balance now with deep  bass, tight as a drum ,mids to die for and the upper mids and highs doing stuff I have never  heard from any preamp .I will hook it up to the Stax DA100m soon hopefully ,but they have been in storage for an extended period ,so I want to reform the caps to minimise the chance of damage .
