georgehifi Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 (edited) A new "monoblock" kid on the block, with stunning "objective" results for the $$$. 100w @ 8ohm and 200W @ 4ohm. Even better "objective measurements" than the Nord One Hypex NC500 poweramp. But speakers with 2ohm loads like the Wilson Alexia's could worry them, so not for everyone. https://shorturl.at/fwAQV Edited April 2, 2024 by georgehifi 2
THOMO Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 You can buy one of these for even less. They sound very good.80 watts into 8 ohms and happy driving 3 ohms loads [Gale 401s]. Based on the Naim NAP 250 but with Switchmode power supply borrowed off class D amps.A friend bought one and comprehensively measured it and it measured well.Probably the biggest bargain in amps I have come across. It does have a Naim like engaging/musical sort of sound. https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwig_pLw0aSFAxX3qGYCHSMPBxEYABAKGgJzbQ&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2a6wBhCVARIsABPeH1to7PLHL29wH45YjPGD9pKs2KY8eFB8ghfPR5fefPtPhgSf4nS532caAsYzEALw_wcB&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESVuD2-UxLLZp1sIs1XUAT9baCWMRBd5xQg1Fu6bG6CEhfVbVp8gyu5oFF_nYq4H0me-shG-0Xd9snl2TfdLpIsJ43d-oSxsJdqqyrlj39x65c90WhmZrm&sig=AOD64_3oBMCmwOzg3Ty37i3vTpKPaOG81A&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwj9so7w0aSFAxXgb2wGHZWcD8AQ9aACKAB6BAgBEA8&adurl= 1

THOMO Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 There is also this version with added heatsinks for a few dollars more- 1
THOMO Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 The MOD 250 is a simplified version of the Naim NAP250 and was designed by Neil McBride who is considered an expert on Naim amplifiers and has offered various upgrades and refurbishments. over many years.
THOMO Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 (edited) I would be wary of anything that ASR rate.I borrowed one of the Topping D90 DACS [best measuring DAC they ever measured blah blah blah].It sounded pretty crappy compared to some old 1995 DACs I have here.Very dry and flat sounding. That thing in any half decent system would be spoil the sound.Seems to me whatever they are measuring for is pointless. It's not "their rating", it's how it measures up objectively using very good equipment that's being used, even better than some manufacturers have, and how it rates again objectively against other amps. (it turns good amps into PA amps) Cheers George 4
Hawkeye Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 Following on from George’s post I came across this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmG4vL2yvwQ The author didn’t comment as to the amount of gain either in wattage or sound quality. Any thoughts on the validity of the “modifications “ 2
georgehifi Posted April 9, 2024 Author Posted April 9, 2024 (edited) Very good subjective review of them on how it sounded on his system. As for the mods they are just input opamp buffer differences, they do all sound different, I prefer none at all if your dac, like mine has the gain/voltage and volume control to do it. Usually audio gear that measure well do not sound good because most ears are accustomed to badly engineered products, our brains preferred certain amount of distortions, and when that's added we think its "better". it isn't until you play something that's well recorded live you realise what's going on. Definitely explains why a Manley preamplifier will be preferred over a standard SS preamplifier with a fraction of distortion.

Yes I can see it that way, but I say some ears instead of most. Also I don't do audio gear to sound "gentler" for rubbish recordings, which then in turn "reins in" the magnificents of good recordings because of it being gentler. Cafad Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 I see the Kickstarter is doing well. Plenty of interest. 1

I don't know much about this kick starter thing, does $310,445 aud mean that's what they've got in the way of orders already after one day of going live? If so that's 620 odd orders in one day!! This is the pair of V3's with the power options I'd get, which equates to around $498aud shipped!!! (seriously have my finger on the button for a pair, even though I love my Hypex NC500 mono's with massive LPS) Cheers George Edited April 21, 2024 by georgehifi

Skeptical Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I have received a pair of the V3 monos. I like them. Not lacking anything to my ear. With my Wiim which now has room correction the result is excellent. Preamp, DAC and amp all transparent. Great value for $. 3

I have had a devil of a time finding a 48v 5a (minimum) external power brick for these type of amps which are properly RCM registered. Weirdly enough, when i search the EESS database the model FJ-SW202948005200 seems to come up as registered ! Edited July 15, 2024 by Rrobot
