Current generation 43 inch TV with audio delay and advance?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I currently have a 2014 model LG 32LB6500 TV. All of my viewing is with Sennheiser sound isolating wireless headphones since I am a night owl. This setup works flawlessly though I have my sights set on purchasing a Samsung QN90D 43 inch TV to replace the ten year old LG.

My concern, however is that I am not sure whether the Samsung (or indeed any modern Smart TVs) offer a particular feature that my 10 year old LG TV has - the ability to delay the video, effectively the equivalent of having an audio delay function that can go "below zero" and "advance" the audio - so not merely delay it.

I need this "advance" function since otherwise the audio lags behind the video - I attribute this to the wireless headphones, however I am happy with them and do not wish to change them - they were Sennheiser's mist expensive model at the time I bought them, they are wonderfully comfortable and have excellent sound isolation (apart from making my viewing experience silent to anyone else).

So from what I have been reading, it does not seem as if modern Smart TVs have this video delay function - they can only delay the audio. I have watched YouTube videos of users accessing these menu items and they certainly only have values that facilitate delay settings. And I have read on forums that many new owners of, say LG OLED TVs are suffering from audio delay and despite all their efforts, they cannot fix it and would obviously benefit from a video delay function instead.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct - that the current Samsung and LG Smart TVs do not have the video delay feature (or a practical equivalent) that was available on the LG models from a decade ago?

Thanks

Yes, unfortunately it's unlikely that you'll find a built-in video delay feature... However, there may be alternative solutions to address the audio/video synch issue you're experiencing...

One potential solution may be to use an external audio delay processor or AVR with built-in audio delay capabilities? So you can setup a delay to the audio signal, synchronising it with the video? It's worth noting that Denon may not work with BT headphones for audio delay purposes. If your headphones use Wi-Fi or IR technology instead, they may work fine with an AVR I reckon.

I hope this helps.
