Jakeyb77_Redux Posted March 14, 2024 Posted March 14, 2024 Going to chat to Superloop if I can ever get through as higher than 600 is rarely seen 1
Guest Posted March 14, 2024 Posted March 14, 2024 Check your modem/router is capable of 1000Mbps down. I had a hardware limitation at 750Mbps when I first upgraded. Turned out it was the firewall (software) in my setup that was throttling the speed. 1

The bandwidth required is less than what you have on 50 mbps, so I would not expect it. 26 minutes ago, Marc said: That sounds like you need to investigate your WiFi hardware and signal throughout the home. Yes, I added a "wifi extender" in my new place as all the kitchen metalwork, fridge stove, microwave (worse when it was running) made my living room measure as being about 10x further away from the wifi source than it actually is.
Ars Paart Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Many Wifi routers pump out both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, the slower one has better range. Some phones (mostly the ones that start with "i") don't play nicely when swapping between them.

A technician did the outside work 2 weeks ago. The inside done in less than 1 hour, made easy by pulling out the old HFC cable (pre FTTC). Switchover done by Superloop in 15 mins after they received notification from NBN. Not sure if people are aware, but NBN could be offering up to five times the speed at the end of the year for no extra cost! https://theconversation.com/nbn-upgrade-what-a-free-speed-increase-for-fast-broadband-plans-would-mean-for-consumers-and-retailers-225168 It was mentioned in The Age that this free speed upgrade will apply to FTTP and HFC users. So, another reason to take advantage of the FTTP upgrade from your ISP. A mate text me today to say he just got Superloop. I had never heard of it. 1000 down and 50 up. Regards Cazzesman

cazzesman Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 I’ve been with Optusnet so long and being a silly lad 20 years ago, I have the Optusnet.com.au email. That email has me all around the world, so I need a work around to keep the email address and get onto providers such as Superloop etc. I’m open to suggestions. Regards Cazzesman

My bedroom is 5m away from the router, with one stud wall between (less really, if the door is open), and I barely get a signal on 5GHz. Edited March 16, 2024 by Flash
AccMagi7s Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Today, I am getting an upgrade to FTTP for my NBN. However, the technician who came to my place refused to lift the roof tiles or enter the cavity because he said he doesn't fit in. I had to do it myself to proceed with the upgrade. It was useful to have a smaller build in this situation. There is one pit in front of my house and another pit at the main road. I see a green optical cable and several black optical cables in these pits. 1

Hahaha, that's a good excuse for the "tech" who doesn't like dusty, cramped spaces (aka a slack b*st*rd). But I reckon NBN Co would have something to say about that if you queried why they'd use contractor that wasn't fit to do the job. What about poor old bungers like me, I'd be on the phone quick smart. Although you have to weigh up the inevitable delay against just getting it done though. 2
Flash Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Yeh that’s awful customer service. I used to be a sparky, and also hated lifting roof tiles, but you still did it. The main reason was getting them back in place properly. It was even worse if they were tied to battens. You’re bringing back bad memories from a life long past!
AccMagi7s Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 After upgrading to FTTP, my internet has become more stable (especially in the evening), which was certainly worth it with the current no-cost promotion. I'm glad I made the upgrade. 2

You’re bringing back bad memories from a life long past! what about a colour bond roof? You get to see all sorts of environments, Removed a cover and there mouse droppings everywhere, or spiders! Sometimes I spend 20-40mins removing the stuff that the client used for storage as it’s supposed to be path of access to 1.2 tonne of machinery. Gotta do what you have to do to get the job done. Flash Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 That’s why I left domestic contracting soon after I finished my apprenticeship, and went to commercial, then mining and construction. Crawling around in roofs, and under floors had knobs on it.

IMDave Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 Feeling a bit green with envy from reading about everyone that's had a successful FTTP upgrade. My first technician attendance appointment in December was cancelled the night beforehand and re-scheduled till January. The January appointment was cancelled and re-scheduled till Feb. The Feb appointment was cancelled and re-scheduled till today. And yes, you guessed it. After waiting around all afternoon ( appt 1-5pm) at 5:30pm I get a notification from my provider that NBNCo have re-scheduled me till the end of April. Thanks NBNCo, I would rate your Customer Service as ZERO stars! If they don't get to you on the day your booked for......you go back on to the end of the queue. WTF??? "Not happy Jan" 2
rantan Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 The way it is going I will be fortunate if the FTTP upgrade to my premises is available in my lifetime. I contacted AB and they said they have absolutely no idea whatsoever when ( IF ) the upgrade may be available. OTOH my 100/20 plan works quite well so I am just going to forget about the whole thing. 1
purpleninja Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 Fingers crossed that the situation improves and you get the upgrade - I have found that nbn can be very random with estimates and then suddenly they're ready to go
Addicted to music Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 The time has finally come. Was contacted by ABB, date set for 3/5/24. An hr after that call, contractors were at the door around 5:30pm say they need access to the entry point of the house. Then they came back and said it’s not accessible from the pit and will try another entry in the morning as it was getting dark. The boss said they completed there end of the task today.
purpleninja Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 (edited) So have they just installed the casing and pipework or have they done the conduit to your nearest pit? Great news that you're seeing some progress!!! Edited April 12, 2024 by purpleninja
awayward Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 My FTTP connection is scheduled for later this week and I have a two storey home, what are my chances of convincing the technician to install the internal connection box on the first floor near my modem? Anyone else had this done or will it just be installed in the garage on the ground level?
