Hi @ray4410 - as per the earlier advice to @Darryl - as you were one of the early adopters of this also, could you pleasae delete all your keyword notifications for now?

I will update here when you can add them again.

FYI: a couple of key word instances in the last 24h (Luxman, KEF) did fail to alert: feature currently not enabled?

We worked extensively on it last night and ran out of time - and will resume later this evening.

But you are correct, in the meantime it is enabled but not triggering.

Maybe it should have been titled 'Alpha' version, rather than Beta in hindsight.
I can say the new developments are taking it to the next stage though, with more than word being detected and smarter keyword detection.
Stay with us, it will be worth it.

Hi Marc.  I was delighted to see this feature! Wondering if it is now both enabled and triggering?

It was in place and activated - and working albeit a few quirks. We discovered we could greatly improve on it and set about doing so, but it involved a complete rewrite. It's currently deactivated on the back end (even though it looks like it's in place on the front end). We do hope to release the next beta version in the next fortnight.

Thank you for all the work to get it in place. I'm sure it'll be very well received.

Cheers

I think this is one of the best features of SNA by a big margin. When it was up and running, it was brilliant!

It will be back real soon. I'm just a bit swamped at the moment.

Just an update to say this hasn't been forgotten and is still in progress.
It's proven very difficult to be able to do what we want, when it comes to multiple words, and expressions.

If we wanted one word only, such as "Bowers" we could turn this on now.

Where it gets trickier is something like "Pink Floyd". Currently it was ignoring the 2nd word, therefore you would get notifications for a "Pink" album (Different artist) also. Unfortunately because the database is gigantic, the standard code you would use to do what seems like a simple thing would actually bring the server to a halt.

Where it gets trickier is if members want to be able to turn on a notification for say:

Linn Turntable

becasue they don't want to get notifications for:

Linn + Streamer

We're still working on it though.

Thanks, Marc. Ultimately, if it proves too difficult to implement multi-word searches, single keyword searches are still very useful.

Even when the single word search function was operating, I found this was the most useful function in the 6 years I've used on SNA

I found it wasn't too hard to improve the specificity of the searches. 'Musical Fidelity'- just searched for 'Fidelity', or 'Pink Floyd' just search for 'Floyd'.

Overall, I found the system generated about 80% highly relevant results (I had about 40-50 keywords saved for searches).

THanks for the feedback and support. We've worked overnight on this and are going to bring back the single word search function in the first instance. I'm about to upload a new version. As part of this, we're going to reset everyone's search notifications as the majority of them are more than one word, and that will cause some issues with use of this version.

At least that system can work while we look at the longer term improvements.

I'll update here once it's reactivated and able to be utilised.

Thanks @Marc - I have set up about 8x keywords and will report back if any irregularities.

I note that many brands consist of three-letter abbreviations:

KEF, VAF, MBL, MSB, TAD...to name a few

Also finally spotted the "ignore topic" option - what a heaven sent.

Only took me 12 months membership to begin using that functionality. 🤭

Just looking through the keyword notifications that have been added - there's over 150 already; but something I noticed ...

Check your spelling of brand names. I spotted many incorrect spellings would make sense if it was intentional and chasing ads from those that have spelled the brand wrong in the ad. However, I cross checked this across those users other keywords, and they don't have the same keyword with the correct spelling.

Mcintosh is not spelled Macintosh. Innuos is not spelt Inuoss.

Just pointing this out in case any members report their notifications are not working as intended.

Just checking in to see if anyone's keywords have triggered notifications as yet?

Working as expected?

No notifications here yet for VAF, KEF, Revel, Luxman - there was activity in a Luxman related thread since but the word itself wasn't used. Probably just no incidences of keywords in target threads since re-activation.

Got several triggers thus far.

Thanks, Marc.

Thanks Marc - I've added single keywords and will report back, seems to be working for others above. Is there upper and lower case sensitivity?

Posted

@Kirby66 - We have set it to ignore case.

We did find a bug overnight to do with notifications when more than one member has the same keywords - but that has already been addressed and a new version will be uploaded later today.

Can anyone confirm if they are getting duplicate notifications for a keyword at the same time please?

Affirmative, Marc. Now, only receiving a single notifications for keyword alert.
