Administrator StereoNET Posted December 10, 2023 Administrator Posted December 10, 2023 For a long time many members have requested a feature to monitor and/or be notified of certain items being posted to the Classifieds. We had many attempts at this in the past but ultimately it was near impossible due to the amount of server resources it needed to use to actively monitor and then send notifications. Recently we discovered a way to do this, and I have now implemented it as a trial. To activate - head over to Account Settings. Click on Keywords Monitoring (left hand side). Add the keywords you would like to monitor. It is not case sensitive. Hit Save. Finally, head over to your Notifications Settings (Back in Account Settings page, on right hand side). Scroll down to Keywords Monitoring on New Topics. Adjust to your desired settings. Enjoy! Notes: This only monitors the Classifieds subforums This only monitors the Title/Subject of the threads (not the body) due to the resources required. Please do give feedback here on how it's working (or how it isn't), and/or any changes or improvements that could be made. 10 1 3
Darryl Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 I've set it up, more for testing purposes than anything, although you never know! How long does it take to send a notification after an ad is live?
RCADees Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 This feature looks great and very simple. Good work Marc! 1

How long does it take to send a notification after an ad is live? In my testing it was instant. I'm monitoring it, to ensure that as more people set up notifications that it doesn't lag. I would appreciate feedback and happy to post some test ads with your keywords triggered if you let me know what you've set up. Don't forget that it only monitors the topic/ad title/subject, not anything that's contained within the body of the ad. 3
Guest Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Just did another test, and the notification (both inline, and email) were instant. 1
Darryl Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 (edited) Hey Marc I set up Linn as a monitored keyword and this ad was posted recently. I received 3 separate notifications for some reason. If I click on the notifications they all take me to the same ad. Just wanted to let you know. Edited December 12, 2023 by Darryl
Guest Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Thanks for letting me know. Yes I also received a double notification today - am looking into it. 1
Kirby66 Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Brilliant, thanks for continuing to look for a way to get this done @Marc I will set it up now and give feedback 1
Guest Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Thanks - there's a small list of refinements to make this week already. It will only get better and more effective. 1
Darryl Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Just got 6 notifications for a new Naim ad. Wanted to let you know in case you're monitoring it. Apart from multiple notifications it seems to be working well. Cheers.
Guest Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Yeah we're working on it. But do keep letting me know please 1
Darryl Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Just got another 6 notifications for a Naim ad in the wanted to buy section. Cheers.
Guest Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 I'm hoping to have an updated script ready to upload by late this evening (damn kid's school concerts!) - but I think it's worth leaving this activated and putting up with additional notifications for the time being (rather than disabling it completely)? 3
Guest Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 I'm yet to do some tests, but as of now I believe the duplicate notifications should be resolved.
Darryl Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Hey Marc. I received 21 notifications for this new Naim ad - Just wanted to let you know. Cheers.
Guest Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 It seems to be (weirdly) something to do with Naim .... Looking into it and thanks for letting me know. 1
Kirby66 Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Hi @Marc, although I see you have temporarily disabled the feature I thought I'd let you know I have received 5 emails ... one on Friday and four yesterday. Only one of them was a duplicate (and only received it twice). This will be great when debugged and my experience has been much better than Darryl's NAIM issue. Cheers 1

We were confident we were getting close to resolved - and introducing some improvements also. Coding ...... !
Darryl Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Hi Marc. Just letting you know that I received 6 Naim and 4 Linn notifications for this new ad.
Guest Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Could I ask a favour and ask that you remove your notification keywords please? You were one of the first to add them, and the problem at the moment doesn't seem to be affecting others (that I am yet aware of) that may have added their keywords after we made some updates. Wondering if that might be throwing us off track a little. Don't re-add any just yet, in your case.
Darryl Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Done. Let me know when you think it might be OK to add them back. Thanks Marc. 1
Steff Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 FYI: got one notification for one iteration of keyword appearance. Tick and check, very good functionality thank you.
