Is black velvet necessary around a TV?

Recommended Posts

Currently, I in the process of getting rid of a projector/screen/stereo system/baffles.

I'm looking at replacing it with an 85" TV.

The 120" projector screen had a black velvet surround, which I've pulled off the wall also.

In replacing with the TV, is it necessary to apply black velvet around the TV for a better look/viewing?

Thanks

Not really needed for a TV. The main reason for projectors screens is because you don't want to see a gap between the edge of the image and frame so you move about 10mm or so onto the frame and the blacker the frame is, makes it more invisible so you get that nice sharp crisp edge to the picture.. You already have this with your TV but any black velvet or paint in the room, on the display wall will always help the image too. I would cover the front wall and ceiling in black velvet either way, can't detract from the image. Projectors also have a soft edge to the picture so black velvet is really the only way..
