Crakers Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I’m currently using a Zen Stream with upgraded ifi power supply which works and sounds great but it’s the weak link in my setup. I use Roon and am looking to buy the best sounding Streamer I can afford (under 5k) I have a Denafrips Pontus 2 dac so don’t need a dac in the streamer . Prefer dynamics and soundstage over ultra revealingly sonics , any recommendations appreciated, cheers . 1

chaddy Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I’ve been reading up on this exact topic over the weekend and the general consensus seems to be the Aurelic Aries. 1 1

Specifically Aries G1.1 but G2.1 is better but way off budget. Also look at Lumin U2 Mini. Also look at used Auralic G2, Lumin U2, Innuos Pulsar. If I had to pick one, it would be Pulsar.
Max Headroom Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 Love the pre and dac - I've got that pre and is an absolute sleeper and amazingly musical. Heard the ARCE streamer at Dacmans and its a killer - why look elsewhere? A huge step up from what you have, and up with anything below $5000 https://www.denafrips.com/arce 1 1
half baked Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 As you use Roon I would definitely have look at the Arce, it’s as good as the Auralic G2 and Lumin soundwise and even surpasses them marginally in treble and bass extension in my system, it’s also less than half the price. It doesn’t have the features and bling of the others tho if that’s important to you 1
Gryffles Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I have my Innuos Zenith for sale. PM me if you’re interested

Crakers Posted November 20, 2023 Author Posted November 20, 2023 I bought a Denafrips Arce from Dacman, thanks for replies and suggestions 2
half baked Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 I’m sure you’ll be very happy with it, as a precaution tho I would suggest a cushion under your jaw before you press play 2

"Prefer dynamics and soundstage" @Crakers Hi Craig, I've done similar things to this, using 2 x subs, with all sorts of mains, ESL's, two and three ways ribbons ect. To give the system some dynamic breathing space. Have you ever tried bringing your subs in out of the corners just a little 300mm or so, and then using them as speaker stands for your mains, which should be tilted forward a little naturally, aka Wilson Alexia's? (worked wonders for me with many different mains tried and got the sub's bass tighter being away from the corner which can thicken the bass. Cheers George Edited November 25, 2023 by georgehifi
