st3ph3nm Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Nothing for 10 days? You guys are slack! Moving a little north from the Indian stuff, I've recently been listening this again... Yunchen Lhamo. A beautiful voice from Tibet. This album was recorded in Australia, with some interesting modern instrumental arrangements. It's quite relaxing, but manages not to veer into "New Age Meditation".
pulinap Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 it is worthwhile to check out the Alan Lomax collection......... 1

I remember seeing her perform at an earlier Womadelaide, a long time ago now. She was the closing act on the final evening. Great voice.

buddyev Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Debashish Bhattacharya. Developed and plays indian slide guitar — its certainly a guitar but not as we know it — more an amalgam of guitar and traditional indian stringed instruments. I have the vinyl 'Beyond the Ragasphere' (with John Mclaughlin) on all the time at the moment - brilliant. Also worth a listen: Calcutta Chronicles: Indian Slide Guitar Odyssey Calcutta Slide Guitar Mahima (with Bob Brozman) Edited January 24, 2014 by buddyev 3

kdoot Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 If you're into Arabic inspired jazz two of my favourite musos are Rabih Abou Khalil and Anouar Brahem - just about everything they do is worth listening to. Khalil is a really playful muso, but if you want hard core Journey to the Centre of an Egg is brilliant Brahem's The Astounding Eyes Of Rita is his latest album but all his stuff is interesting. I stumbled onto Anouar Brahem for the first time today - absolutely captivated by the Eyes of Rita album. I used to play bass clarinet in high school and it's the instrument I miss the most. Have never heard one used in a quartet like this and featured for a whole album. Beautiful combination with the oud, the more western-sounding electrified bass and middle eastern percussion. Ordered the CD from fishpond.com.au for around half the price that JB was asking. 5
mrbuzzardstubble Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Check out his other combos too kdoot. You're in for a real treat.:-)

frankn Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) John Cleary & the Absolute Monster Gentlemen. Only 3 players but what a sound! Jazz Funk at its best, attacking drummer, a bass player laying thick (but fast) licks - you could spread veggemite and great baby grand piano and electric piano playing. Best band so far Edited March 8, 2014 by frankn
mrbuzzardstubble Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 They were great, frankn.Roberto Fonseca was excellent.Liked Emel Mathlouthi and Ane Brun. The ladies can hold their own here:)
