muon* Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 Have played 1 to 4, now playing 5 and It's a hoot! I like the story, and being up against a crazy cult, favorite vehicle is a light helicopter gun ship, favorite weapon is .50cal sniper rifle. 6
tripitaka Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 I don't understand games, too old I guess, but judging by the image you posted, I'd have to say the graphics look fantastic
muon* Posted October 30, 2023 Author Posted October 30, 2023 I'm 62 Fun being part of the story, instead of just being an observer like with watching movies. 4 1

jgunner Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 @muon* you are the only 62 year young person I know who games and better still, first person shooter at that! Most people over 50 can’t even watch the screen without getting sick! 2

Most people over 50 can’t even watch the screen without getting sick! I'm 69 and still play, but not online these days. But about 10 years ago (I think was the last time I played online) I used to be a mad keen "Resistance Fall of Man" player on the PS3 network. Was pretty good too, and kept getting invites to join clans. The best fun was when the son-in-law and I got on the grog and played online. I must admit, there were a few "friendly fire" incidents when the other players got too annoying.. I still have two PS3s on the home network, and play against the grand kids occasionally.. 2
muon* Posted October 30, 2023 Author Posted October 30, 2023 Interesting looking game that "Resistance Fall of Man", and on a PS3 at that! I can't use those console controllers to save my life, I need Kb & M for FPS gaming. I tried online gaming early on with Counter Strike, and I'm sure my team mates were shooting me in the back, although they may have had good reason 1
bob_m_54 Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 The other fun thing to do when playing online was "glitching" Usually considered as a bad thing to do, and you would sometimes get booted from the game. What you did was find glitches in the game scene, usually a corner in a building or wall, and if you kept jumping at it, you could sometimes break through and end up outside the the game arena. This allowed you to sit behind cover, well outside of the danger area, and pick off opponents at your leisure with your trusty sniper rifle.. But obviously this is poor form, and only used for maximum entertainment value. And I agree with the sniper rifle being a favourite weapon, I used to excel at shooting moving targets from great distances. LOL 1

MattyW Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 My reaction speed was below par in my 20’s…. I always relied on knowing the level and tactics to win back in the day….. now in my 40’s I prefer RDR2 which with mods looks gorgeous and is largely character building and story line with a bit of action thrown in. I actually enjoy chopping wood and the chores around camp. 2

Totally agree with this. In fact it’s the games that draw you into the story and feel somewhat like an interactive movie that I love the most. Haven’t played far cry before, will check it out. 1
tripitaka Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 What on earth are you people talking about, I'm getting jealous!!! Lucky I have my hifi, from which I could never be parted.

Often times I will play a game and crank some instrumental prog metal or progressive deep house. Amazing! Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. 1

muon* Posted October 31, 2023 Author Posted October 31, 2023 I was on a train in RDR2 and couldn't see my horse so just jumped and tuck n rolled, once the train passed my horse was on the other side of the tracks giving me a very odd look 3
MattyW Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Get the mod for unlimited whistling distance for your horse. It’s worth it 1

Luckily that didn't get saved after I logged out. Guess I'm back into RDR2 as I have played Far Cry 5 to death at this point, now have to wait for a sale on steam for Far Cry 6. Guess I'm back into RDR2 as I have played Far Cry 5 to death at this point, now have to wait for a sale on steam for Far Cry 6. I've played Far Cry 2-5 and have had FC 6 since day of release but have been distracted with other things, so I've hardly touched it. The thing I like about Far Cry is there is always a Idiot character in it that you keep running across. I think it was FC 5 where you had the idiot stuntman, Clutch Nixon, where every mission would end up with his demise in a funny way. I've never bothered with any online portions of Far Cry games, TBH I don't play any online portions of games that require shooting, as I've found I don't have the aptitude or temperament for it. As for RDR2, well that's one of the finest games ever made [ Try playing it through a 4k projector or larger than 65" OLED TV via a PS5 ] Like you, when I first started playing it I got the controls messed up. I was in Valentine wandering around near the Post Office [I had my horse tied up at the fence there], and was trying to interact with the passing people. I went up to this passing woman and went to press the button to interact with her, but ended up pressing the wrong button and pulled out my gun and pointing it at her instead, this set her off shrieking out "Get the Sheriff ", I chased after her to try and quieten her down, but wrong button again, and put her in a head lock instead. Opps, better get out of here, so ran towards my horse, went to unhitch it, wrong button, punched it instead, it retaliated with a huge kick with both back legs sending me flying about 5m from it, wiping out most of my health bar. I eventually got on the horse, and with a bunch of townsfolk hot on my heels quickly rode out of town as fast as I could. I didn't get far unfortunately, as when riding over a hill, a rode straight into the middle of a stage coach robbery in progress, I was completely surrounded and was quickly shot dead. Still my all time favorite RDR2 interaction, only happens if you give the town drunk in Valentine the wrong directions to get home. 1 1
muon* Posted November 10, 2023 Author Posted November 10, 2023 Oh I relate with you big time On may occasions I try and talk to someone whether it be far cry or rdr2 and punch them in the face, shove them, and one occasion shoot them in the face In rdr2 at least you can reload and it wipes recent stuff. I avoided the Clutch in far cry as they are time trial type missions? Not big on those. I am a single player, player, not into online play.

Yes, the Clutch Nixon quests are all trials of some type, mainly timed, they aren't that hard, it depends how persistent you are. I like to try and get all the trophies for a game [ I usually check to see if a game has a Online portion tied to it, if it has I usually avoid it ] Apart from the Anti gravity racing games WIPEOUT, I don't play online......But even that hasn't been played in over 2 years. Tell a lie, I have played Sackboys Big Adventure online, which can be very funny, as there are levels that are multiplayer only, only problem is it can suffer quite a few glitches, depending where the other 1-3 players are located......its usually caused by other player trying to talk whilst playing, I've heard kids talking to their mothers [In Spanish] about what they want for lunch in the background. Also as you usually find you are playing with kids [I'm guessing a lot are under 10 ], organization when playing a level can pretty much none existent, which makes for some very funny things happening. 1
