I'll definately report here on Saturday after the earth quakes and see if there is any structural damage to the house or windows! 🤣 Looking forward to your report too!

Got the house to myself yesterday and I managed to pump up the D8000.  All I can say is faaaaaaaaaarrrrrrkkkkk!!!!  I don't know how the house is still standing. There was a crack in the ceiling's edge which grew and now needs repairing as it looks bad compared to before when it was small.  The furniture, doors and windows and tableware were vibrating and shaking like crazy and the sub handled anything I threw at it. It got so loud, up to what my ears could take and I didn't get any distortion. That one sub is enough. It was loud throughout the 150 square metre house let alone the room and the vibrations were felt in other rooms too. I'll still get a second sub but the one does the job super easy. It is a powerhouse and a half. Fills up the room much more than needed and I like running the bass super hot. And the bass quality is superb. Very clean sounding, no muddiness, similar to the Cerwin Vega subwoofer sound signature. This was all with Electronic music and it sounded better and stronger than a festival. If you're on the fence about this sub, go get it. It may be cheap in price, but it's not a cheaply made sub. It's biiiig quality and powerful is an understatement. The subwoofer box doesn't vibrate. I had a glass with scotch on it and it didn't move. Here's a pic of it with my two of four turntables, 2 CDJ's and the mixer. This is a spare bedroom which is being transformed to a music studio.

  • well, bit the bullet and added dual D6000's to the system.  WOW. is all i can say set the mode to "user" in app. as it says no eq applied.  adjusted levels with Anthem ARC quick measure

  • A D8000 came promptly from Selby, great service. It was really well packed being double boxed. Getting a 70kg subwoofer out of two boxes was a challenge, but doable and they have now become inside cub

haha thats better than any silly youtube review with stats and graphs. (note that does not mean i dont like the guy reviewing them but i have no patients for stats and graphs just actual owners opinions)

i also wont "need" the 2 i have but i wanted 2 and the sale was a good time. i suggested when these came out last year the price would not remain at those levels but have been proven wrong thank goodness.

will be interesting if the D-8000 PRO/D-9000 get here, o/s they are special order through retailers from my research anyway.

the D-4000 is no slouch and basically can also be considered by many who might be looking at the 12" svs for example and shaking their heads at those prices.

I agree that a description of a product is better than graphs and theory. What swayed me was the review on the Canadian seller's site where the buyer said he was going to sell his PB16 ultra because the D8000 was more powerful and had better bass.

I too have always believed in two subs even when the one is enough. They work more relaxed and just even the sound out. Plus at this price it's a no brainer. Number two will be ordered on Black Friday as I'll have saved up by then.

I believe all the Tonewinner subs perform surprisingly and are awesome quality subs.

If my PSA subs ever die I'll go straight for the Tonewinner

PSA.. hmm very nice subs too bad no distributors here any more. i do see Tom V. is shipping to Australia at seemingly good prices... but the website explains due to costs any repairs, even under warranty, will require the owner to pay all shipping. problem with that is try shipping from here and see the price it cost. businesses usually get discounts but not individuals.

anyway PSA have gone how SVS should have, SVS are not priced well here anymore.

Hi guys just moved house and picked up a tonewinner d6000.

I have an SVS PB12Plus and I thought something must be blown the amp turns on it made the house vibrate but just didn't have the punch it used to. My old house I could see the wall flex and the whole house would shake

The tonewinner is better but I've got it pumped up to max and there's a slight vibration it sounds alright but I was expecting alot more.

Any chance it could be my amp. I have a Denon avrx4200 I have a yamaha rxv2700 sitting there it used to drive the svs sub thinking I'll hook just the sub up and see if it makes a difference.

I dont think it's room position the driver doesn't seem to be working hard enough.

I would check the gain setting within the Tonewinner app, but a would perhaps advised checking with another AVR to see if it’s an output issue from your AVR pre-amp..

just a short opinion on the new D-9000 pro.

i am guessing around the same here as in Canada so cheaper than a svs pb3000. haha

  • 1 month later...

The D8000 pro and the D9000 have both landed in Australia. Surprisingly there is a big jump in price from the D8000's $2899 price to a whopping $4495 each for both the D8000pro and D9000. In Canada and the States the price jump is only $300-$400. I wonder why the jump is so big here, even though we are closer to China than America for shipping. Is it possible the plain D8000 will follow the price increase with new stock I wonder?

geotos... because we are getting screwed. i thought prices of the first 4 subs were a bit low to start off so i wont be surprised if they are creep up. the 2 big subs are obviously priced for direct competition with svs subs... pb4000/16 and now 17. the price has nothing to do with the Canadian price or the other 4 subs in the range.... so it must be about svs prices. stay just under, do a 10-15% off Selby sale now and then and hope to get some sales. there wont be that many buying subs at this price level her and now the svs pb17 pricing is known at $7200 i doubt many will get sold. but hey look at the T.W. big boys they are $thousands cheaper so lets buy them.

its a con job.

I saw that the SVS PB-2000 Pro is at a ‘Black Friday’ price of $1649 and this got me thinking about a subwoofer upgrade. Currently have an SVS PB10-ISD, which is ancient at this point.

Annoyingly, though, despite the discount being for a couple of weeks most shops have already sold out. Seems like everyone who already knew they wanted to upgrade jumped on this price given it’s the one time the distributor puts them on special.

In any case, I’m definitely not a fan of the way the SVS distributor handles pricing. As a result, I was looking into alternatives and learnt about Tonewinner.

I’d like to get two subs and Selby is doing a 30% off the second unit promo. This brings two D6000s to $3398, which is about $100 more than what two SVS PB-2000 Pros would be.

Which comes to my question. Would I be missing out on anything with the D6000 versus the SVS? Or is it actually a better sub than the SVS PB-2000 pro?

Assuming stock isn’t an issue, what is the better buy? 2xTonewinner at $3398 or 2xSVS at $3298?

Also, given they also seem to be the distributor, how good is Selby at handling warranty issues. I know they’ve been around for a while and possibly were involved with group buys etc in the dtvforum days. But their google reviews are a bit mixed from a customer service point of view.

Thanks in advance!

Had a quick look at Tonewinner at one of the Selby stores. Does seem well built but hard to get a sense of the sound quality in a store environment.

It’s a shame that there aren’t be more objective audioscience/Erin’s Audio type reviews for it. But on paper the specs are good and from the comments here and on other sites people seem happy. I guess it just shows how much influence the U.S. has on internet content. If something isn’t big there, it won’t get much online coverage.

One doubt I had was that I thought the warranty was only one year based on a comment earlier in this thread. But I now see that was corrected in a later post. Can confirm it is a 3 year driver/amp and 5 year cabinet.

My current sub has only a 10 inch driver, so it will be a big jump to 15 inch. Obviously it’s nice to listen at louder volumes, but when listening at lower volumes are larger drivers inferior to smaller drivers? Some quick googling says no, but does anyone have any personal experience with this?

All I'll respond to that is, with all things being equal (but they usually aren't) a larger driver will require less distance to move and there is no logical reason that is not a good thing whether the output volume is high or low.

hi blizz.. T.W will be ignored in the U.S. because they have the best budget subs already and i doubt they will ever sell there in numbers or were ever meant to. but in places like Canada and here thanks to svs prices they may eventually get a few sales.

Selby reviews are like all other companies reviews, based on someone taking the time to write one, so i would not bother with them. i picked up 2x D-6000's as i have mentioned and am hopefull to have them running by new year. i know warranty is only 3 years but thats mute in Australia. svs give 5 years but i have dealt with their Aust distributor about an svs older sub and they were useless. anyway why pay the "svs" premium... 45 day exchange, 12 month upgrade program... that we dont get.

at least Selby do 10 or 15% off T.W. gear at various times thru the year. i see svs have done the same tricks from last year, some on b.f. discount and some not, then after a week or so they those models lose the discount and others get it.

if looking for svs contact Steve at CHT Solutions. also i would go into Selby and haggle as i doubt this b.f. special will actually equate to many sales, so haggle.

I ended up buying two Tonewinner D6000s. Haven’t had much chance to test them out yet content-wise, but have one of them in position and hooked up. Unfortunately I’m having issues connecting from my iPhone. Latest iOS and app.  The app sees the subwoofer, but when I try to connect it just hangs on ‘Loading’. Has anyone else encountered this? I can see the app was updated recently, potentially they broke something?

I'm running version 1.2.0 of the Tonewinner app on Android with no issues . The firmware on my subwoofer was upgraded to version 2.7 without issue.

Thanks for the feedback. From the back display my firmware is 2.2 which is very old at this point. Possibly the latest app and the old firmware don’t play nice. I’ve sent Tonewinner an email. Curious to see if I get a response. Might also have to try get hold of an Android phone.

You should contact your place of purchase in the first instance. They are responsible for warranty and support, and will often offer a faster and more keen interest in resolving your issue than the manufacturer themselves!

You've probably already done this, but do you have both bluetooth and location on when connecting?

Thanks, I sent an email to Selby after seeing your message. I guess even if it is an app issue, they would have a good communication line to Tonewinner.

I also did actually receive a response from Tonewinner which was nice, but they also suggested I speak to the retailer.

Yes, both are on. Although the app only requested bluetooth permission. Also the app does see the sub, as in it appears in a list of available devices. But the connection hangs.

Whilst I wait to hear back from Selby I will see if I get the same issue with second sub.

Thanks all.

I’ve checked the second unit and the same thing is happening. I’m thinking it might be an issue the app, possibly only in combination with firmware 2.2.

I also tried another older iPhone and the same issue occurs. Don’t currently have a functioning Android phone to try.

Was visiting Adelaide today so popped in Selbys to audition. They only had a D6000 hooked up, but like everyone else, I was pretty impressed.

I tried to asking about a discount on a single sub, however, they wouldn’t budge because I’d need shipping to Sydney.

So if anyone in Syd is looking for a D6000 or ideally a D8000 😈, and wants to benefit from the current 30% off a second sub deal, then let me know else I guess I may need to hang out for the Boxing day sales and hope for a repeat of the 15% discount

Imagine freighting these things around the country would cost a bomb.

Is there an ideal volume I should be setting the sub to, before doing room calibration? On my old sub I left the dial half way, but I’m not even sure if that was ideal.

The volume defaults to 40 and can be set as high as 60. What’s with 60 as a maximum, anyway? I’m curious if there is some reason for that.
