So it was a joy to hear Led Zeppelin - 'Stairway To Heaven' and The Doors - 'L. A. Woman' blasting away on a good hi-fi system.

Did anyone discover a track at the Hi-Fi Show?

Gareth from Epiphany Audio in Room 2208 had this album playing in both vinyl (J Sikora turntable) and CD through his magic TAD set-up. I've got an internet-sourced CD copy on its way now...

The band is Destroyer, the song is Chinatown and the album is Kaputt

wonderful album. Dan Bejar's best imo.  sounds great on vinyl.  Savage Night & the Opera is another superb track, has a slightly New order tinge to it.

Now the HiFi show is done and dusted, and many have given their thoughts, let's hear who did the following......

  1. Bought something at the show that they simply had to have, on the day.
  2. Bought something they had their eye on beforehand, and have now put in an order.
  3. Saw/Heard something they are now genuinely following up on with the Retailer.
  4. Are now convinced an Item is a must have and are genuinely saving for or working hard to convince the Partner it will be life affirming.
  5. Thought they wanted something, but upon hearing it, changed their mind (The item doesn't need to be named)

I don't fit into any of the criteria in 2023, but at a past Show, I was blown away by the Kii 3's and made an appointment with Rom to have a private listen at Sonic Purity.    I subsequently bought a 2nd hand pair from him.

The Show is a great experience, but how many of us are merely Tyre kickers and how many dip into the 'sky rocket' to make it worthwhile for the retailers.

Option # 1 for me ... 🙂

It was a great HiFi Show.

Certainly the best one so far.

I am sure that the credit rests with Marc.

He managed to get everything right.

Some of that was to do with planning, for example in getting such a good cross-section of equipment.

Getting the rooms to sound so good - don't know how he managed to do that . But it was one of the real standouts.

Then we come to the 'feel' of the Show, the 'atmosphere'. This was very real and was commented on by persons other than me. How Marc managed it I have no idea, but it was quite tangible.

Big congratulations to Marc.

He has done a wonderful job.

But, here is my question.

How can he better it next year?

I can't see how he will do it.

But I am certain he will manage it!

Only a few weeks after the Show and I am already looking forward to next year!

Agree 100% with all of your plaudits for the work put in by Marc and his family. I wasn't able to attend the show, but I have heard from other attendees and some people who had rooms, just how well run the show was.

The good sounding rooms - says a lot for the people who were displaying their products that, in a short period of time, they were able to work around the issues  presented by their rooms, and display their products to good effect.

I would also like to thank you Bruce, for starting a terrific thread, and to you and many other members who attended the show, for your ongoing contributions to the thread.

Nice job everyone!

You know, I wondered how the rooms sounded so good as compared to , say, last year.

Here is my conclusion.

No special information, just my surmising.

I think that Marc gave some sort of 'coaching', 'suggestions', 'advice', or whatever to help them to get the most out of their rooms.

That probably explains the 'room sound'.

How Marc managed that great atmosphere still leaves me mystified!

Sorry but I can't take the credit for much of that! From an organisational point of view, yes. But as for rooms sounding better - that's all on the exhibitors. We find that as the show evolves, exhibitors gain more experience and are often familiar with the rooms and the acoustics. So they all get a bit better each year. 🙂

Thanks for assuming it's my doing though!

Marc.

I think you are way too modest!

These things just don't happen by accident.

Or by osmoses.

Or by the stars aligning.

Or the wind blowing in the right direction.

It is careful meticulous planning and lots of hard work.

And surrounding yourself with good people (like your wife & family!).

and putting your heart and soul into it.

I still love your modesty.

There is nothing worse than some arrogant self-absorbed idiot.

Very pleased that that is not you.

Keep up the good work.

Probably realised the impending doom might be on the finances & wondering how to explain it to the wife  !! 😬

They do love Diana Krall, but at the last minute they are wondering whether 6 hours of her is doable.

I would be wondering too.

There are so many other good singers, in various genres of music, who could be used to give a bit of variety.

Can't help but wonder why this apparently happens at multiple shows.

I never heard Diana Krall once, or Nils, or many of the other cliche "show" artists.

In fact, at all the shows I've been to in the last 12 months I think the feedback (globally) has been heard and exhibitors are being far more

adventurous (finally). 🙂

Do you have a list of the room sizes that were used at the HiFi show as it was a bit hard to judge at times due lots of people and extra equipment in them.

Being able to judge how certain speakers sounded in a particular size room would be helpful for potential suitability.
